sonoma engine help

I just purchased a 1998 sonoma. Its not an extended cab, and its a short box. It has the 2.2L. It only has 90000 miles but It doesnt run that great. I was wondering if anyone new what i could do to it just to make it run better. It doesnt start good all the time and seems to make some weird noises. Any ideas neone? just to make it perform better? Thanks

Yeah. Learn to lie as good as the person who sold it to you and sell it. Then get one with fewer miles and a 4.3 Vortec in it. Unless you plan to lower it or somethin faggoty like that, then you'll probably want the 2.2 so they'll have another thing to make fun of you for. Just my opinion.

Re: sonoma engine help

honestly, look into a ford or any other truck. These trucks have too many issues. My 97 with the vortec 4.3X still misses after two years, 5 different sets of plugs wires ect, and that is just the beginning. If you really like the S-10/Sonomas, try to find one from California. They got a recall and have had the faulty fuel injection system swapped out. But the rest of us other 49 states get to live with the problem, or pay outragious amounts to have the system fixed. you can try injector cleaner, or a shotgun to the block (just kidding). And by the way, check that your rear bumper is still attached on a daily bases, they don't like to stay on. You should get that recall soon. good luck.

Dude are you just full of shit or what? 1st there is nor has ever been a recall on the rear bumpers..The fuel injection recall in cali is for the 4.3's and because of sticky poppets. If your engine is still missing after 2 years than obviously you're having other troubles and are taking it to a crappy mechanic. These forums are for helping people, not hindering nor trolling...You wouldn't happen to have a 87 1st gen with a v8 in it would ya?

What's wrong with the 2.2 other than the fact that its a 4 cylinder with no power? I mean, mine only has 38,000 miles, but it seems like itll be fine so long as I maintain it and dont try and pull a 5th wheel with it. Gas being what it is makes me even less caring that I dont have the Vortec 6 cylinder. I'm honestly curious as to if there are any serious issues I should watch out for with the 2.2...

Re: sonoma engine help

Yes, keep an eye out for the headgasket going on it.

If you see any coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant or overheating, get it fixed ASAP.

As a result of overheating or does that head gasket just go on them randomly?

It can go by itself and cause overheating or overheating can cause it.
