i have a 1987 g-20. when i start it the engine surges and then drops to almost a stall until it warms up. once it warms up it settles down into a normal idle. i've replaced the o2 sensor and the fuel pump. anybody have any ideas

Re: engine surge
This isn't really my expertise, but if the fuel and ignition systems are in proper working order the next thing to check might be the EGR system. You might check some of the other forums for similar issues in like-year'ed vehicles (e.g. Chevy Trucks, Suburbans, etc.). My van is now semi-retired, thanks to the high price of fuel.

Re: engine surge
Avalanche/C&K/Silverado/Suburban/Tahoe might be a start... Seeing as many of these vehicles have similar, if not identical, drivetrains, the question might have come up over there, and already been answered...
