1993 Plymouth Voyager

Hello,

I have a 1993 Plymouth Voyager with 110,000 miles. I recentlly just had a tune up, and oil change and had two different garages look at it. When I drive it, and accelerate it seems to hesitate and has trouble finding a gear to drive it...I push on the gas and it hesitates and then goes and then hesitates and then goes. It's worse when I drive up or down hills. I had a friend of mine who has the same van take it and said it was probably a fuel filter thing, so he flushed out the fuel stuff and put a gas treatment in. To no avail...the van is still doing the same thing. My husband thinks I'm crazy and so does the guy who last worked on it b/c he doesn't see the problem. It was also hooked up to computers and nothing came back on wrong. Any suggestions? I will be bringing it back to my mechanic who last worked on it the second weekend in May, if I don't brake down before, so any ideas would be great !!

If your problem prevents you from reaching normal driving speeds, it is possible that your throttle positioner sensor (TPS) is defective. Keep me posted on this one please

Actually, I can drive at normal speeds on the highway or around town. It seems this problem is a "phantom" since no one can tell me what's wrong with it...I can drive it at 25 mph or 65 mph...but the problem exists when it wants to...when I am accelerating at low speeds or high speeds mostly on hills; up or down....I wish I could figure this one out.

If it is what you described, your fuel tank and filter must be checked firstLes

Check your alternator to see if it is putting out the correct voltage. Also monitor it to see if it stays the same over say 20-30 minutes of idling with a load on it (ie headlights, fan motor, etc,)

Jenn, I feel your frustration! I have a 1992 with the same symptoms. I changed the TPS, then the entire Throttle Body and then the ECM. Luckily I didn't have to buy these parts because they were taken from a junked (wrecked) vehicle that ran fine, but I can't figure out what is the problem. I thought I had it solved when I replaced the coil pack, but the problem can back after 2 days. I even traced the wiring for any possible breaks. If you find anything out, I'd appreciate it if you could share the solution. Likewise, I'll do the same.

I don't know if your tune-up included new spark plug wires, but that's what solved my problem. (Finally!) That should have been one of my first things to change, but they looked good. Anyway, good luck with yours!

Yes definitely check the plug wires and distributor cap, I had the exact same symptoms and it was a bad plug wire.
