S10 won't pick up speed as well when hot
When the temp. on my S10 is around 120 degrees, and it hasn't warmed up much yet, whenever I get on the gas a little bit, it picks up speed like a dream. However, when it's warmed up to 200 degrees, it doesn't pick up speed as well. The engine stays revved up and won't accelerate, and it also has a harder time changing gear. What could be the problem?

Re: S10 won't pick up speed as well when hot
have you checked for computer codes?
I have a 89 with a 2.5 and when the engine light comes on it does almost the same thing except mine is manual shift so no problems with the shifting, any way the light usually only comes on after its been running for a while and when it comes on my truck is gutless... my computer only has one code and thats for the o2 sensor, I replaced and it didnt help but thats one thing you can check, also make sure its not over heating, you cant always rely on your gauges they could be wrong. you never know. hope I helped please let us know what you come up with |

Re: S10 won't pick up speed as well when hot
I believe your vehicle has transmission cooler lines that run to your radiator. I would suggest a flush or 2 with Prestone Radiator Flush. Also, make sure your transmission fluid isn't brown and doesn't have a burnt smell to it. Make sure it's not over/under filled with the CORRECT transmission fluid for your vehicle.
