Where is the CAT located?
when i went to get my car inspected, the mechanic told me that i was gonna fail b/c i didn;t have a CAT on and i pushes out 18% vs the allowed 10% carbon on emissions. so i went back to the shop that did my exhaust system beefin b/c they took off my CAT and i demanded a new one. Now they claimed that it was never removed and that it was sitting right there on the bottom of the engine B4 the piping starts.
Is this true? does cat sit toward the bottom front of the engine b4 the pipe or is it in line with the piping under the chasis? they said its different on each car. |

Re: Where is the CAT located?
Yes, this is true... The catalytic converter (i'm assuming that's what you mean when you say CAT) sits right behind the engine, before the downpiping under the chasis. On my car, it is covered by a heatshield, but it's still there.

aight, thanx a lot. atleast i know he was tellin the truth. you or anyone know if adding a resonator will take away from the purpose of getting the 2.5in pipe installed? |

I have a 97 civic ex and i have a full exhaust. I have a new ceramic header and replaced the catalytic converter and then a new 2.5 piping catback. Before I bought the hi flow catalytic converter i did have a extension resonator. This does nothing. On my car an O2 sensor is hooked into your catalytic converter, but i had my mechanic drill in the o2 sensor for me. A few days later my check engine light came on, assuming that the resonator threw my ECU a code. An extension resonator won't do anything but make it louder. I suggest buying a hi flow catalytic converter. on ebay it's like 50 bucks for a magnaflow. That's what i have. Took the mechanic 20 min to put it on.

Re: Where is the CAT located?
My suggestion is to buy a hi flow catalytic converter. Takes care of the problem and doesn't really change what ur exhaust sounds like...maybe a little less noisy, but when i put it on people said they don't tell the diff.
