chips & scratches?

I just got a quote to fix some stone chips and scratches on my black 99GT
Now I figure I might as well leave it until the whole car needs to be sprayed and do it myself.
Whats the best way to fix scratches,the kind you get around the gas cap and stuff also when you look at the car in the sun you can see very fine scratches that look like a spider web effect.
Is there any kind of polish?
Can I buff it myself?
What kind of equipment do I need?
Its been sunny for weeks here in TO :o] and you start to notice every little nick.

i have a nifty little can of rustoleum mixed to the arctic white of my car. a little pain brush and monthly turtle waxes keep the shine on the car... The spider web can be buffed off and in the process eat away at your clearcoat, and it will just come back if you wash your car by hand often. just wax n polish it a lot... thats my aproach anyways. I sure other people have put a lot more effort into their paint jobs but im a simple make it look clean person...

Thanx I like the rustoleum idea, I've used a little brush with lacquer but it drys so fast it hard not make a mess.

i would also say just wax it and polish but dont buff unless u really have to and if u do deside to buff it i would take it to someone who knows how because u can really mess up a nice black paint job by putting swerl marks in it with a buffer

Whats the best way to fix scratches

GM sells a nice kit....Its called a Paint Chip Repair Kit Part #12378179

Here is what is in the kit
-SPOT SANDING PEN
-CLEAR TOP COAT
-ULTRA FINE POLISH
-PAINT APPLICATORS
-MICROFINE POLISHING SANDPAPERS
-SPECIAL FLEXIBLE SANDING BLOCK

I ordered the kit for about 12 bucks shipped from www.partszoneonline.com only thing you will need is a bottle of touch-up paint.

in the sun you can see very fine scratches that look like a spider web effect.

You might want to look into getting a polishing buffer from Sears,it's low speed and wount burn the paint,then use some NanoWax made by Eagle One which helps reduce fine scratch's

I'm just about to head out for lunch I'm going to stop by the GM dealer by me they usually stock allot of this stuff.
The GM paint I already have.
The chips I want to keep on top of before they turn into rust.

The only thing they dont say in the instruction's, is that it's best to soak the sand paper in water for about 15 mins before wet sanding and use lots of water while sanding.Dont build the paint up to high,it will take forever to get it level,just small light coats.The kit works great !

You might also look into some stuff called BlackFire it a 2 step polish and wax and it's one of the better ive found for Red and Black car's.

the new maguires mirror shine 45 works nice to. i work in the paint department at a fire apparatus manufacturer, it makes the red shine like crazy.
