I have a ’94 626 LX 4Cyl. Auto. I need to change the 4 coil springs and shock / strut. I got an estimated and the mechanic wanted $600 just for the job (parts not included). I’m thinking of doing the job myself but I will like to know if it is too difficult and what special tools I need. If any one out there has done it before, can you please give me an idea? Any help in this matter will be appreciated.
Thank you, Luism12lm |

just replaced my struts recently, here is what to expect
Paying $600 to replace struts and coils is ridiculous. Messing with struts only becomes dangerous and time consuming only when you have to separate the coils from the struts. But all you need to do is buy pre-loadeded struts (coils inside) and jerk out your old ones. All you will need is a full set of metric wrenches and sockets, and some WD-40 (to prevent you from shearing any fasteners). In a garage, I could replace all 4 struts in 1.5 hours. On my hands and knees, probably 3.5 hours. Regardless, you will need a 4-wheel alignment after the work is complete.
Getting to those top rear strut nuts is tricky, so you might want to buy a repair manual. If you work on your car at all, you should buy a repair manual. |
