Disaster time - help on window painting please?
Ok - major disaster time last night!
Got a lovely Revell M3 on the way, body is lovely, interior is lovely, masked the galss and sprayed last night (Tamiya TS-29) and it must have bled through in 5 or 6 palces - it's awful - Basically I laid on far too heavy a coat but hey you live and learn! Can I strip the paint from clear glass without damaging the "clearness" of the plastic or should I look to locally poish out the bleeds? I'm panicing majorly and would really appreciate some help guys! Thanks |

I have read on hear that you can strip with brake fluid with no detrimental results, never done it myself so I suggest a search of the forum to see if any other answers previously.

Apologies - was panicing!
Have had a good seaqrch of the forum now and will be buying a container of brake fluid on my way home tonight - that seems to be the solution! |

Best to use an airbrush to spray with masking tape, as you can lay down a light mist to seal the tape.
I had major problems getting this right, but once I got it, it works all the time now. The TS cans can be a bit bruttle with the amount of paint it throws out, that is why I use a airbrush. Also - doesn't stripping clear with brake fluid fog the clear parts, and you then have to polish them back up again? Just thought I would ask as I've never stripped clear parts before. Also I use acrylics, as if I mess this up with clear I can sometimes just scrape the black off, and wash with water and try again..!! |

Best to use only acrylics for window trim.

Vric, I hear what you are saying but it doesn't help me much now does it! I'm in this position and brake fluid it will be - I can always polish the glass up afterwards!
At the end of the day I'm not gonna bin the model for one msitake! I'll go to acrylics for future (Personally I didn't know TS spray wasn't acrylic!) but I only have propellant cans for my airbrush and they are a nightmare to be honest! Well you'll find out how I get on in the morning! |

I only have canned air at the moment as well. I did get a mini compressor but I just can't get enough paint out of the gun to make it worthwhile using.. PSI is too low.
I know what you mean about cans being a nightmare. I'm just about to buy a compressor, as buying canned air is a waste of money IMO. Also, you can polish clear parts, I read how to do it somewhere. Do a search but it's not going to be easy, good luck I hope it all works out for you. |

Re: Disaster time - help on window painting please?
Y'know, it's just a thought but have you considered getting a replacement from Tamiya? Might even be cheaper than the brake fluid!

I had something along the same happen to me, the tape leaked. It was before I got the hang of how to lay a mist of paint down to seal the edges..
Wasn't as bad, but because I had used arcylic I was able to remove the unwanted paint using a (VERY small) amount of thiiners on a q-tip, and then used water and a towel to remove the unwanted paint. Toothpicks also came in handy to clean it up. Was actaully the 360 in my sig that it happened with, on one of the side windows.. I was lucky as the clear didn't fog or crack. I've only used acrylic ever since, with an airbrush and Tamiya tape. |

91% Alcohol(available at drug stores and grocery stores) will remove the paint with no effect on the plastic. Try some on a Q-Tip on the affected areas. If that won't work fast enough soak the whole window in it to strip. It may take an hour or so but it will work and not hurt the plastic.
