Did you ever have just one of those months?

Hello all..Just wanted to let you know of another fixing adventure with the Jimmy.3 weeks ago replaced the intake manifold gasket..a week went by with no trouble then on my way to work the brake pedal goes all the way to the floor..I know what you are thinking it is the master cylinder..Nope wasn't that..(Surprisingly enough I have had to replace it 3 times on this vehicle)..Well it was the back brakes they were out of adjustment and full of gear lube...Yep the rear axle seals went..(not too bad $20.00 from the dealership) Trying to find the id stamp on the rear end to find out what axle I had was a different story.Had to purchase both American and Canadian Axle seals because could not find the stamp.Well come to find out it was made in Buffalo,Ny.Also changed the back brakes out too..Well to make a long story short The rear end was a mess had to replace the spider gears..Just so you know if you need them you can't get them from a dealership because they are on a nation wide back order so they say...So the gears came from a 94 Blazer which worked perfect. All is fixed on the Jimmy for now.Well all except the oil cooler lines but going to save that project for another day..Hope all of you are doing well and I hope I didn't bore you too much with this long thread..Take care..

Re: Did you ever have just one of those months?

I have replaced the following parts so far in one years time:

Heater Core
Blower Motor
Both Leaf Springs
Both front brake Calipers and hoses
Fuel Tank
Fuel Pump
Fuel lines from frame to tank
One of the U-joints on the rear drive shaft

Then there is my current project. The front differential has something busted in it on the drivers side. That flange thing rotates around all loose and made horrible noises when driving. Well in the process of just trying to get that thing out will be replacing the following:

Both Tie Rods
Bushings for both Upper Control Arms
Both sets of bearings
Both shocks
And half a million bolts that are too rusted to even attempt to use again

My next project is the intake manifold gasket. I think its leaking because I hear this hissing noise coming from the right front of the engine (drivers side) and also saw a puddle of coolant there. The engine doesnt run right and sometimes spits out black or white smoke. I hope its just the intake manifold cause if its the head then im just dropping a new motor in it.

I fix one thing just for the next thing to break. Eventually I will be the owner of a brand new 1990 S15 Jimmy.

What was the deal with your intake manifold gasket? Why did you replace? Mine (96 Jimmy) failed with a massive water leak that stranded me on a trip. Now I think it's bad again. What gives with this design?

Was it retorqued after 500 miles?

I don't know what gives with the design wild. The reason I replaced mine was I had a good size leak on the rt side of the engine in front under the EGR valve..With the new gaskets though I think they were designed a little better.I got my gasket set through GM and I talked to a tech there at the dealership and he said that they changed the gasket so I guess it seals better now..I still however dislike the idea that you have to use the silicone gasket maker to complete the seal on the intake..You have to retorque after 500 miles rlith?I did not know that..Also Booger sorry to hear of all your trouble with the vehicle...But like you said after you get the front end fixed you will have damn near a brand new vehicle...Just be thankful you know how to do the job yourself..Think of all the$$$$ your saving..Unfortunately the money you save doing the repair yourself usually has to be spent later on down the road for yet another repair..lol..But you know after all the things that have gone wrong with the vehicle I could really honestly say that I wouldn't trade her for anything..The car has definitely taught me a lot..As I am sure all yours has too...

Yeah Old Blue difnately has its own character which is the only reason I insist on repairing it versus trading it off.

BTW the front differential is a BIOTCH to get off.

Yeah the dealership put too much rtv on and it squeezed out the front of myblock. It looks sorta stupid... May the whole gasket be rtv, or so you think they just sealed the edges with rtv?
