Re: how do u do ur wheelies?
It really depends on what kind of bike you're using. In general, I don't like using the clutch to wheelie. A big torque bike like my ZRX can wheelie on throttle alone in the first two gears. I just roll it up to about 5k in second, roll off for a second and hit it. On my buddy's CBR600, I do the same thing at 8k in second gear, no clutch. It's all about practice and throttle control. I've had one go egg shaped on me and it's no fun. Best thing to do is practice on a dirt bike if you have access to one, but eventually you gotta try it on the street bike. Be careful and start small, don't get greedy like I did. LOL
BTW, I don't do mile long wheelies. I bring it up, maybe shift a gear or two if it feels good, then set it down. Never on the highway. Oh, and there's a couple good write ups on the web about it too. Just try a search on how to wheelie. |

i don't!
mine will come up only if i get to 5k and snap open the throttle. personally i can't afford to drop it. coz no doubt it will end badly 1) i will have to fix my bike 2) i will need time off work to repair myself that means no money and that then means no bike fix and then that means no way to get to work

Did an accidental wheelie yesterday. I needed to make a right turn, and the light was green. I braked late, so I was leaning, straightened it and then brake, and turn, ended up being in left lane. I was down to first gear, so I figured cars are coming now, need to pick up pace. Took it around 5K (anymore makes the bike wheelie on throttle), needed it to shift to 2nd, forgot to roll off the throttle, so when I shifted to 2nd, I rolled on the throttle before releasing the clutch (as I usually do when upshifting). Forgot I was already carrying rpm, and I dumped the clutch too quick, and all I knew was there was a sudden jerk and I was falling backwards. And I realized, oh shit, this had to be the time without a jacket on. I probably had dumped the clutch on 7K, this is the sweet spot for 2nd gear wheelies on this bike. The front tire rose a few inches (torque makes it easy) as I rolled off just as quick, there was no chirp or loss of traction. Good thing I didn't roll-on some more. Thank God, it really screwd with my head.
V-twins are great, they're easier to keep traction and avoid wheelspin. Btw Blayne, if you ever wanted to get maximum acceleration from your bike in 1st gear, how'd you go about it without wheelieing off in the process? Damn, I want your bike.

i've been riding with some stunters and they've been telling me to rev up to 6k and then quickly press and let go of the clutch. but man... their advice hasn't been helping me. think maybe cause they got aftermarket sprockets and mine is an older bike: a 97 gixxer 750 (carb). all that does is make my bike hop a several inches. so one night i said screw it, hold the clutch then rev up to 10k and then drop the clutch. next thing i know im up there and it was trippy. now i just need to learn throttle control (which i think is very difficult). also it's pretty scary too cause i can't see anything but my gas tank and i always feel like im gonna roll to my back, uugh
. guess i have to get use that feeling.

Holy shit, there are cars nearby. I'm all for good fun, but I probably won't take my car there.

Re: how do u do ur wheelies?
Ok this is how my cus told me to do one, in first gear hold in the clutch, then reve kinda high and pop the clutch but do not let the RPM go down. That should bring your front up. Your bike should pop right up. It is gonna take some time but you will get it if it is that important to you. I hang with a lot of stunt heads but i'm good with just ridin.

Re: how do u do ur wheelies?
Quote:
to take off quick i rev to about 3k, lean over the tank and release the clutch slow and keep the revs at 3k-4k until the clutch is fully engaged and then just roll it on. the front gets light but no lift and full acceleration. wind it out to 70mph and then grab second. Trans, i had your bike and i used to get up to about 40mph in first, back off the throttle to push the momentum over the forks and compress them and then snap it open and use the forks compression to help lift and lean back to help get it up. then cover back brake in case of emergency. once up hold the revs and let it power down so as not to slam down and bend something

wheelies
the guys on the videos usually have larger rear sprockets to make the bikes jump up easier. stand up , compress your forks and then throttle up on the rebound. try to stay centered so the bike doesnt tip to one side or the other. i can wheelie no problem on my cr250. i have a hard time getting the front wheel up on my gsxr 600 though. it usually just skips the ground. i think its all about gearing. and balls.

so well, last weekend i finally learn how to do a wheelie. pretty simple now, however, i still haven't learned to hear the sound of my motor yet. the other guys tell me to rev it up and u will know just by hearing the sound when its good to let go of the clutch. now heres that messed up part, if ur gonna try to do a wheelie, don't do it right in front of the cops!!! my buddies and i were riding and they were popping it up as we were cruising. one of my buddies tell me to do it so about 2-3 mins later of riding i pop one up. and what do i know, as i was popping it up a cop was facing right at me, ggrrr.. luckily, they only gave me a ticket for speeding 40mph in a 35mph, if they given me one for wheelieing, they could have given me one for wreckless endagerment. my advise, if ur gonna pop wheelies stay away from pleasant hill in cali, that city is swarming with cops ( i believe it's because of all the bikers that do speed and then run away).
