What manual do I need most?

I just got a 2000 civic se, and wanted to buy a manual so that I can know more about my car. In the future I may also need to repair the car myself. It seems that there are many manuals, what kind do I need? Thanks

Re: What manual do I need most?

Haynes always makes reliable car repair manuals. Chilton also makes one.

Re: What manual do I need most?

actually, i own a 1998 honda civic ex, and i have the helms manual for it... it's oem certified and it gives me details on everything i can take apart in the car, from the lugnuts to the glove box. I would recommend helm, simply because of the detail in the diagram and the step-by-step instructions they give you

Re: What manual do I need most?

I like the Helms and Chiltons manuals for different reasons. The helms has bigger pictures in it, so I can actually see what the picture is of. But I'd say the helms is more for a "backyard mechanic" of sorts. Where the Chiltons has quite a bit more info in it. I also like my Chiltons because it covers the '84-'95 Civic, CRX, and Del Sol; for around $30.

Re: What manual do I need most?

That's true, the chilton is cheaper, but the helms has always given me exactly what i need. I guess it's just a matter of preference.

what the hell are you talking about, dude? Helms make Hondas manuals for them........ so if you buy a helms manual, you're buying a certified honda shop manual. They just don't get any better than that.

I have a helms for my 91 civic and one for my 97... I love them both... wiring diagrams with color codes and all.... why don't you like yours?

The ones I got costed me $80 each.... have COMPLETE wiring diagrams of every single system and harness in the car, diagrams and explainations of how the relays work even... ECU trouble codes and trouble shooting trouble trees... cross cuts and engine diagrams... instructions on how to remove and replace every nut, bolt and screw in the car... all the way to paint color codes and listings of trim level differences.

I remember when I bought mine, there were several different ones to choose from... maybe you bought just a basic manual...

Re: What manual do I need most?

IMO it goes like this Helms>Haynes>Chiltons I fucking hate all of the Chiltons manuals my dad buys they're fucking worthless. When I looked up door window replacement in my Chiltons for my old 4th gen it said to take it to a fucking shop I couldn't believe it.
