New block pics

Well as some of you guys know, that stage I block I had almost all ready to go ended up being JUNK. So, I got my money back and stepped up and bought a stage II on center block. This paticular block was used for one qualifying round in a Mclarin indy car

I have already magged and sonic tested this block. It is MINT. In fact standard bore for this block was 3.895 or something like that. The bore now is 3.845. I have to bore the block 50 thousands just to reach standard bore!! That means this block has about 4 rebuilds in her.

mated with a set of Buick Stage II heads and proper cam, I should be able to make over 1,000 HP min. we will see

Pics coming in about 30 Min. gotta run to class

ok guys

Here is one of the main caps. Ever see a four bolt splayed v-6 before?

Bottom end shot. the middle two main caps are four bolt splayed, but front and rear caps are 2 bolt with cross drilled mains.

speed six symbol casted into the block, that is one of the main ways to identify a stage I or II block

Here are the cross bolts I was talking about. Notice how the block skirt extends past the main caps. The caps accually sit inside the block skirt.

bad shot of the lifter vally. I am going to be using a sold mechanical roller cam

Here is number 2 cylinder. I know it is hard to see but notice the ridge cut around the cylinder??? The block is O-ringed. One thing that is good about the Stage block is that there are 14 head blots per bank on a v-6. Don't have to worry about lifting the heads anymore.

There she is, I am going to start putting it togeter in a few weeks I will keep you posted.

umm I plan on building a clone GN (Regal, I don't want to cage my real GN) and I will be running 9.00 and faster. It will be streetable but, not what I would call a street car. If I go as slow as 10s in that car with this engine.... I will be pissed, I have about 5 grand wraped up in block, crank, rods, dry sump oiling system.

LT1MAN, I am 22, I learned all of this just by helping with my dad (we built a 73 mach 1 and a 78 bronco. My grandpa, he has been racing SBC since the 60's. I watched and observed, asking any question I could and helped where I could. My other grandpa who owned a small engines shop, I used to work out there when I was younger tearing into stuff. That is how I learned all of my basic engine concepts and how it all works mechanicaly. All my turbo Buick stuff I learned through my uncle. He pretty much is the Illinois turbo Buick guy, people from chicago to carbondale (southren IL) call him asking for help and advise. Z28 Josh has seen his car, it's gonna be badd ass I am about to graduate from ICC with an assoicates in applied science with an emphisis on Caterpillar technology, In there I learned everything from Diesel engine builds, fuel systems, hydraluics, eletronics, AC, power trains, transmissoins, and all sorts of stuff. That is where I have gotten my ASE certifications.

All the turbocharger stuff comes from reading and classes.

I am very fortuniate to have the exposure to all of this. Sometimes I take it for granted

OK, This how much of a car idiot I am. Go ahead and laugh, but I have no idea what in the hell those pictures were of. Obviously some part of an engine, but... I can honestly say that I haven't a friggin clue as to what part, and what that part does.
Man, do I have a long way to go...

That was the basic engine block. It houses the cylindes, and supports the crank, cam, blah blah blah. When you tear down an engine, the block is as basic as you can get.
