Coolant Service Question

I have a 2001 Yukon XL. Put in service 6/01. Only 20K miles.

Coolant stills looks the red color it's supposed to. No signs of rust, scale. This is the 5 year/ 100K coolant. Should I go ahead and change it ? Damn, 5 years seems long for this stuff to hold up even if the color hasn't changed. Thought about doing it soon.

Re: Coolant Service Question

Hi, please do what you are comfortable with, as long as you do not go over the recommended service interval. If you are concerned about it and do not mind the expense, then that is enough reason to change it. Please consider the tranny fluid and fuel filter, too.
Take care, Eggert

Thanks, already done it.

I'm the most comfortable when I've taken early ( cheaper, too ) steps to hopefully, avoid costly screw-ups later. Paid the dealer $50 (flush, install ) and brought in my own coolant. Why wait until it turns brown ? Surely the stuff breaks down some over 4 years. I do the fuel filter once a year. Another no biggie, cost wise. Changed out the tranny to synthetic about 2 months ago ( costly, $145 ). At 20K miles, a little early just to drain/refill the tranny with dino oil.
