Need Advice

Hi, I'm new to the forums. Anyway, I've been looking at this 91 3000gt. It's got a ton of features, and is probably the nicest looking one I've seen. The guy is asking a very good price. The problem is, it has 165k miles. However, he says it has a new engine, new brakes. I was wondering how this car will fair as to maintenance since I don't really know much about cars? Do you think it's a good buy and what problems will possibly come up? Thanks.

That about the most miles that I’ve ever heard of on a 3K. I know of a few others that are almost there, so that car is venturing into uncharted territory. At the minimum, you’ll want a mechanic to go over the car and let you know of any obvious problems he can find. Since it has so many new parts, you might be getting a pretty good deal. But, have it checked out and good luck.

To give you some insight...
my 91 VR4 has 104k on it. About 50-60k on the engine, about 7k on the tranny, new clutch.

However, around this mileage, the steering rack is starting to go ($700 from mitsu), the ECU just went ($850 from mitsu), shocks are shot, 60k tuneup time is fast approaching, tires cost me $1100, etc etc etc.

Now I'm not saying this will happen to your car, but when you get up in the miles, these things happen.
