I'm hopeing that someone will just voodoo my problems away......

I just reinstalled the d15b1 in mom's civic after a clutch job. The clutch works great but the gerbals are sickly (engine runs poor)

Initally had a bit of a problem on starting, but as soon as fuel made it to the sparx, it fired right off. I idled it for a while, checking for leaks, clunks, ticks, other abnormalities. I bled the cooling system again and went for road test. Dissapointment.

I only have about 1/2 of the throttle to use. If I try to go past the 1/2 way point It'll break up , buck and kick.

Codes I saw were (eight) pause (four) pause (eight) pause (four)..etc
I reset (pulled defrost fuse)
I now have (four) pause (four) pause......etc

(From FAQ) codes: 4=crank angle sensor? What/where is that, how can I trouble shoot, can I fix it with a hammer?

8= TDC position (top dead center) timing ......since I dont get this code anymore did it fix itself? Did I fix this with a hammer?

well i dunno did you mess w/ the distributor at all,,, is that a dual point engine?

well for a quick check.. check the (i think) its orange and blue wire that connects to the dizzy, make sure those hard old crispy wires didnt snap or pop out the connector.. it happens there old and sumtimes u gotta struggle a little with that connector and mess shit up. good luck man

This is definitely a timing issue. Get out the ol' timing light and go to town. Use this procedure as your guide:

Step 2

If you need to get the crank lined up then let me know I have a picture for that too

did the motor run ok when you pulled it? did you even mess with the timing? why'd you pull the whole motor to do the clutch anyway?

if the wiring is good, with that code, the dist needs to be replaced. a chiltons manual has a run down on a list of steps you can do to figure out what is wrong

Is this the two wires that come out of the transmission (aproximately passengerside/forward of engine).....Whats a dizzy, what does it do? I know these wires to be hard and crusty (2 single loose wires with rubber slip connectors). I assumed that this was a reverse light sensor or something similarly unimportant. Is dizzy the crank angle sensor?

On inital start I had a fuel leak at a module on the firewall (I guess I loosened it there before I decided take it off the banjo bolt at the engine) on I think its a fuel filter. I am wondering, did I need to bleed air from the fuel system?


Other answers to questions. Hybrid:

- yes the car ran fine before I messed it up
-no, i didnt mess with the timing or distributator
-someone told me to do the clutch from underneath (they would definatly lead me in the wrong direction) so I knew it had to be done this way. The job really wasn't bad at all. (until I broke something else!)

I dont have a chiltons, a haynes, or a factory shop manual.......
I'd love it if one of you fine people would gift me a linx to some ONLINE manuals like the info provided by 88ReX..... I will check the timing, but I think that something else has changed, its gonna be a bad connection or somethng I crushed, bent, pryed against, forgot to reconnect, or miss wired when I was electrical taping those that I cut with mom's garden pruning shears.

HAHAHA cutting wires with gardening sheers! That I would love to see lol. Surely you could have messed the wiring somehow doing that!

Dizzy=distributor. SO now that we know you may have gotten a little wreckless with your engine install the problem becomes a little less obvious but it should still be easy to find. Your crank angle sensor is located within your distributor so there are wires going to it for that purpose. You need to check those wires and make sure they are all in the right spot. There are two plastic plugs connected to the dizzy and those are the ones to look for.

No, bleeding the fuel system is not necessary.

And yes....a clutch job shouldnt require you to pull the engine....there are much easier ways
