2000 kia

Ok Mr. LMP I took my moms kia to a local auto electric mechanic (very well respected) and he worked on it for a while and also thought we should try a new computer because he said he was getting some weird readings off the old ones so I got another one but didn’t seem to help after some more searching he did find a problem with the wiring for the fuel pump and now it is working but now the truck will start (some of the times) but only run for a minute or two and die. He said the injectors would seam to stop firing so he put the crank sensor on a scope and it seamed to be working but we are both thinking for some reason it is not tripping right and would like to try another one but they are almost $200 locally and cant get a junk yard to part one out of a motor I was wondering if you think we are on the track? And by the way this is a fallow up on the early post on bad battery thanks for all you help to. P.S. do you know of anywhere else I could get the sensor on line cheaper?

Re: 2000 kia

Corroded contacts, grounds and connectors just come in several Sportage forums as a very common issue...although I have not yet personnally suffered from that..however, some submit their crate to more extreme environments than I do, so the problems show more rapidly. BUt their experience is extremely valuable and indicates where we are heading for....eventually.
The crankshaft position sensor is a common problem and this is where I will look in the first place at the first sign of a hickup....so the probability that it be involved in your problems is real, but the tests you have done may invalidate that option. But I would check ALL available connectors for corrosion or the like and reassemble them with a generous coat of grease....
IN the mean time...although far away from Indiana, I'll check the availability and price range for CkSPS around here.....at least for a comparison. Did nyou mention before if some code scan was performed?

P.S. OK I remember you asked before about code 0590

Re: 2000 kia

We did run a scan and the mechanic said he would just get an undefined code. I am going there today after work and give it one last round of wire jiggle and looking over but if we find nothing I am going to try a crank sensor . but I do believe that I should be getting a CEL but am getting desperate .I talked to the a friend at the auto parts store and they are willing to let me try it out and if I am careful with it they will take it back.

What code is he pulling from the ECM? What are the numbers? It will be a 4 digit number. Post here and it can provide an important clue.
