Hey, ive heard that the only way this is possible is if you jack the car up and drop the motor. Well i dont want to spend three grand to have that done. It finnaly spun a rod after 140k miles on her. I love the car and cant get rid of her. So if i can have a little guidence that would be appreciated. ive heard you pretty much have to strip the engine bay, then pull at an angle, but i really have no idea.
Formula i read you've done this before, so im looking for your help man.

I think I got this from one of the guys in here. It doesnt really tell you how to do anything, but it has some good pics to maybe give you an idea.

I've never heard of jacking the car and dropping the engine. I cant help you out any except, hopefully you got your own equipment, someone who knows how to do it and its basiclly a done deal. Just remember to take off the hood or you're going no where.

On Horsepower TV, they pulled an LS1 and tranny from the bottom. But, hell, they have all kinds of lifts and crap. They disconnected the front suspension and everything from the car, lifted the car off the engine/tranny/front wheels, and rolled it all out from under the car on the front wheels and cross member. It was impressive to watch, but not something i would try, with or without a lift.
Im with MM, I'd also like to here Formula's input, sense he's done the pull before. |

Man, I know it sux but it is always better to pull the engine and do the main bearings where you can inspect for damage. I just got done with engine failure identification and bearings can say ALOT.
Also when you pull the engine and do new bearings, you can plastigauge it and check for clearances. That could of been a reason why you spun one. P.S. I am assuming that you mean you spun a rod bearing.

thanks again for everyones input
its a 95 Lt1 and i have never had any problems with it other than a starter problem. Now that you mentioned that i did see thous guys take the Ls1 out. But im looking not to remove the tires and suspension setup, i dont want to sovle a problem, then make one. The website helped a little, but again no steps, but they stripped it like i thought.

Re: Gotta Pull the Motor
ill tell you what, without a lift pulling a camaro engine is butt! you can get it out through the top but remember most of the thing is under the damn dash, my boy pulled the entire nose of his ss off to get his ls1 out without the lift because we had cars on it. ive also seen them remove as much of the front bay out as they could and barly clear it. but to be honest it is best to drop it from the bottom, yes you have to take some parts off to clear it through the bottom but i see it done that way more than from the top and it looks easier. but that goes back to us all not having the luck to have a lift handy.

Re: Gotta Pull the Motor
but like i said if u wanna get extrem like my boy did to his car, u can alway take the entire front of the car off. as a matter of fact when pro charger brought their 2005 mustang gt to our shop for the photo shoot they did before and after pics of the install and they took the front of the stang off to put the supercharger on. i never knew that was a common thing to do, i never tried it, but that will make 2 times i seen someone do that to do work on the engine
