Re: Fuel Pump peplacement

you need the fuel strainer as well. If you don't replace it at the same time as the pump the warranty will be void for most pumps.

That's about all the bigger it is too.

It's just a PITA to get out since you have to drop the tank.

pump price

In '94 I'm guessing that that is a lower pressure fuel injection system. That could explain the low price.
For my '97, GM Canada quoted me $860.00 for the assembly. Taxes extra.
Nice business. Great service. Give me $1000.00 or scrap the van....
The best price I've found so far is $460.00.
My old Toyota had a service plate in the floor to access the pump. I guess service is the last thing on GM's mind when designing these things.

Access Panel

An access panel in the floor to get to the fuel pump is a good idea in a cargo van, but in our passenger van it would be just as easy to drop the tank as to remove the interior necessary to get to the access panel.

Re: Fuel Pump peplacement

Yup if it's a TBI your talking a whopping 12 psi.
Westone's got me to thinking I might have to create an access panel to get to the pump.

Re: Fuel Pump peplacement

I just checked Advance Auto Parts website and their MOST expensive part is $99. I know the exchange rate is bad, but it's not THAT bad.

Check around some more..

BTW - that was for the high pressure VIN W engine....

Re: Fuel Pump peplacement

Hi. I went to Advance's site. For my '97, the fuel pump assemly, made by Master, was $290. Carter was more.
I didn't see just the pump, but I'm assuming there's a reason to sell it assembled.(Hopefully not just for profit) My guess is that we're looking at different parts.
Thanks for the site. I can use it for reference

You can get AC Delco from rockauto.com for a reasonable price. If you order before June 21, 2005, type 214286189977 in the "Where did you hear about us" field and you will save another 5%.

Re: Fuel Pump peplacement

Ah I think that's the difference. You don't need the assembly. Just the pump and strainer. I think you're pricing the whole thing that the pump mounts up to as well as the fuel level sending unit.....

Here's the link to what I was using. It's just for the pump for a 94 2wd van. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductL...l+Pump&ptset=A

What are you using drew?

Re: Fuel Pump peplacement

Yes, I priced the assembly.
The link you provided takes me to the page I looked up, a '97 Astro page, which didn't list just the pump.
I'll look around at my local suppliers and see if they provide just the pump.
Thanks for the help

Re: Fuel Pump peplacement

I phoned 5 supplier in my area - everybody sells only the assembly.
I'll probably buy locally for warrantee reasons. Could you image trying to ship a fuel-smelling box over the border these days?

You are correct. The cost of the fuel pump assembly is around 40 dollars. You have to drain and remove the fuel tank. The electric fuel pump mounts into the top of the tank. I replaced mine last year. Good luck. Stan
