'95 Eclipse: Rear Wheel Well Sound?

Every time I hit a major bump I hear a sound from my rear, passenger side wheel well that sounds exactly like the sound when you drive off with your hatch not all the way closed. It's a hollow clunk sound or knock.

Any ideas?

Re: '95 Eclipse: Rear Wheel Well Sound?

Could the exhaust be loose like the mount/hanger is bad? Maybe an upper or lower suspension mount or even the strut/shock possibly bad?
I would try and jack up that side, take the tire off and wiggle everything around to see if anything is loose which might cause it to make a clunk or hollow sound as you put it...

not too sure abut eclipse's, but ive had cars in the past where the exhaust heat shield will rattle and sound like shit. in all honesty, you dont really need it, you can rip it off

most likely it's a strut gone bad. try and "bounce" that corner of the car. just push down on the hatch quickly and let it come up and push it down quickly and listen for that same clunking noise. if you hear it, replace the strut, if not, take it in and have it checked out.

Speaking of rear wheel noises I have some myself. First of all I have a rear brake noise, but I have that covered. Next, I have a noise that sounds like a "waawaawaawaa" lol. It happens mostly when I am coasting or going very fast. I think it may be the wheel bearings. Also when going slow at every bump I hit the rear suspension squeaks.
