Power Window Question
Hey all,
I've got a 2000 Grand AM (SE2). My driver side power window seems to have died. It stopped working about two years ago, then came back by itself for a while. Now it's good and dead (doesn't go up/down, no motor sounds either). I replaced the master switch, but that didn't help. So I've taken off the door panel and verified that the switch is working properly, and everything looks good up until I get to the motor. I think I've narrowed the problem down to the motor... however, all the searching I've done online always ties the motor and regulator together. How can I tell whether the motor itself is bad, or if it's the regulator? Like I said, when I try to use the window NOTHING happens. Also, if I have to replace the motor, how do I do it, and do I need to replace the regulator as well, or can I just swap the motor? Thanks! |

Re: Power Window Question
If I were you, I wouldn't even honestly try to pinpoint which one was causing it. In my opinion, it'd be a hell of a lot easier just to go to the junkyard, and pull of a regulator and a motor, and you should be able to get the two relatively cheap. They may even let you borrow one at a time to swap them out if you want to isolate which one is causing it.

Re: Power Window Question
Regulator/motor are ONE unit, replaced as assembly.
As i understand it, it a nut-bolt pull remove on laqter models, or ya have to drill out the mount-rivets, and use nut-bolt to remount. |

Re: Power Window Question
Not sure if this works for the newer cars, but I did it to all four windows in my 94 and it worked great.
(just don't hold the switch on after the window hits the end of its travel.) http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/archi...p/t-26951.html |

Re: Re: Power Window Question
Thanks for all the hints! I'll give it a shot this weekend if I've got some time.
