Question 95 Ford Probe Brake Question

I have a 95 ford Probe GT with rear disk brakes. I am trying to change the rear pads but I cannot get the parking brake loose. I have turned the brake adjustment nut but it is not loosening the cable enough to release the cable from it's fitting. Is there a trick to doing this? Does anyone have a suggestion?

Re: 95 Ford Probe Brake Question

if u haven't done this before you might want to take it to a pro before u mess something up, but if your determined to learn how ot do it your best bet is to pay 15$ and buy the manual, and it tells you what you have to do.

Re: Re: 95 Ford Probe Brake Question

Thank you for your reply, however, I already have the manual and my problem is that it is telling me to turn the parking brake adjustment nut and release the cable. I have turned the nut a lot and the cable is only slightly loosening. What could be stopping the cable from loosening?

Re: Re: 95 Ford Probe Brake Question

No, I have the brake handle all the way down. Do I need to release anything under the handle?

Re: Re: 95 Ford Probe Brake Question

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately it only talked about the front brakes and I did those last weekend. I will try some WD-40 but I haven't sees any open areas to spray the cable.

Re: 95 Ford Probe Brake Question

I now this is a day late and a dollar short, but it may help someone else.

For the rear brakes you do remove the E brake cable so you can rotate the caliper, you have to pry the lever back to unseat the cable because the caliper has a spring on the lever to keep tension on it so it won't just come loose when E brake is not applied, after changing pads, replace cable end on lever first, then pry back again to seat other part in brace.
you don't have to loosen any nuts or anthing this way and your E brake stays set correctly
