What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

Hey again,

I've decided to simply replace the stock 5.25" speaker rather than rip the existing ported enclosure out. So... what to get? I know the standard size for mid range speakers is 6.5", but even the stock crap was able to rumble a bit when pushed thanks to the ported enclosure. I'd like to do a component set, but I don't want to spend more than $60. I know that's a very limited budget, but what is there in that price range? I've visited Crutchfield and audiodomain and didn't see much besides the usual mainstream stuff. I could live with these (Blaupunkt TSx542 5-1/4" 2-way Speakers), but I'd like something of higher quality for a few more $$$. Any suggestions?

try this for the audiobahns. the other link doesn't bring you to the right page.

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

I'm not convinced that those are any better quality than the ones for $40... and I didn't see any prices.

How are your Infinity's, ger-man?

edit... actually, those 5.25" "mid-range drivers" on the audiopawn page look fairly good... 35-30K hz is kinda what I'm looking for. Except the 3 Ohm impendence part... I don't think my head unit will like that.

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

i like my infinitys. there are better components out there. but i guess no matter what you get there is always something better out there. ive got the 400w mtx pushing them so they are certainly a lot better than stock. they work great in my application. no distortion unless i turn the treble way up. i was going to go with a nice set of focals but i decided i didnt want to pay 600 dollars for a pair. so i picked up the infinitys for about 120.

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

Dice please save yourself the shame and dont get the bahns. Go with some CDT coaxis if u can afford them, if not your next choice would be to get an infinity set. Good luck, ask if u need more help.

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

yeah, I wasn't saying I was going to buy the audiopawns (which is why I spelled it that way ). I just liked the frequency range and power specs. Yes I'd like a full set, preferably more on the midbass side than a full range speaker. I have the 2 pioneers in the back that are doing a decent job with the mids and highs. I was looking at RE audios website (it's pretty nice as small company websites go), and all I saw were 6.5" component sets. Do any of the upper level companies sell 5.25" sets for less than $100?

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

check out ebay for under 100 im n ot sure what they got. But usually cant get much from a $100 component set. I suggest you go with CDT's coax, people here will tell you that it is a reputable company and their speaks also sound awsome. Check thid CDT coax out, they go for 99 buks http://www.cdtaudio.com/classislimcoaxial.htm

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

Those CDT's do look nice... I would like to try for a component set though... My car's door is just begging for one . I'd like to get some second opinions too. I've come to learn that everyone has their own idea of what's the best thing to get, so I like to hear what everyone says. Any one else have suggestions/recommendations?

I'm wondering if I should get just the "mid-range driver"... and get the crossovers and tweeters later, or from a different source... I wonder why component sets cost more; they seem easier to make.

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

Well not really easier to make, you see the tweeter and the midrange on a coax set are almost blended into eachother onto a same frequency. A component set obviously has the tweeter and the midragne different, and its special crossover send the highs and lows over a specificly tuned frequency. Plus if u get a componet ou will most likely need an amp for optimal performace out of the set. so that exceeds your spending limit. Just putting in my 2 cents, but I think you should wait to hear others too, and see wut suits you best

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

Ok... thanks for all the input, Powerefx. I'll check to see what people say in the morning while I'm at work. If lots of people recommend the CDTs, then I'll probably go with those. With the comment about needing an amp to power the set, I think I'll probably go with coaxial for now. Heh, and while looking around ebay I found these. I'd never consider buying them, but they'd go with my lighting scheme really well.

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

Get some CDT cl-51's (5.25" component set).

Send an IM to AIM: djdilliodon
OR
E-mail: [email protected]
Don is an authorized dealer for CDT audio. Sells new with warranty for GREAT prices, I've dealt with him numerous times.

A good amp for those components would be a Profile CL400 or CA400...cheap...and will make the components sound great!

Even if you dom't get the components...check out the CDT-cl5x coaxials...great speakers...replace the stock ones in my gf's jeep with them. peace

Re: What 5.25" speaker? *pics*

The only problem with the CDTs is I'm not sure if the speakers are going to seal the opening to the ported enclosure. The stock speakers are kinda diamond shaped, and the CDTs are round with tabs. I'll have to check what the opening looks like without the speaker in it. I tested the depth, and it can take anything less than 2.5".
