as in if the timing belt snaps, will the piston collide with the valves and bend them?

if your timing belt snaps, your engine will just shut off, it shouln't do anything to the actual engine. THe belt just make sure its all lined up if it breaks you'd probably want a pro to do a retiming just incase.
