quick question

i just have a quick question, that i can't find the answer to. how much oil does the 4.3 v-6 take? when i bought the truck, it came with no manual, and people at auto parts stores never seem to know around here.

They are cheaply made. The internal parts of most filters are metal, fram makes them out of cardboard.
The anti-drainback valves inside the fram filters don't work, so when you shut the engine off all the oil drains out of the top of the motor, which means everytime you start your engine, it dry starts causing excessive wear and noisy starts.

Use an AC Delco or WIX filter. I use NAPA GOLD, they are made by WIX and are excellent filters.

I run a little extra in mine..not quite 1/2 a quart. It is rumored to help prevent the notorious chevy rear main seal leak.

Check the oil after it has been sitting overnight.

If it is over the full mark on the dipstick, loosen the oil drain plug and drain some of the oil out until it shows that it is in the safe region.

Drain slowly so you can control the amount coming out.

And yes, over filling by a 1/2 a quart is bad on a 4.5 quart system.

I just drained 0.65 quarts out of my blazer because it was overfilled and guess what the ening is a lot smoother and the engine pickup is MUCH better.

Overfilling the case will lead to the counterweights on the crank slapping the high oil level which will cause foaming and air will get into your oil system and cause lots of problems.

I just did this today and it works!
