If the car is in overall good shape, then probably is ok. Recommend running a Carfax check on it, and make sure it doesn't have a rebuilt title. Maybe spend $50 and have your local shop give a once over, just so you know what you're getting into. They're good cars...if it last you two years for $2500 you'd be golden.

i have a 96 golf 2.0 5 speed and it's a great car! I got it w/ 120K on it and i now have 202K on it and it runs really great! Make sure to keep up on ur oil changes and u should be golden.. I've only had the normal wear/tear work done it and nothing major.. W/ the price u listed for the mileage i would really check over the car, cuz thats a lil lower then the average.. a 2.0 jetta or golf w/ that mileage in my area would go for 3200 at least. Its a fun lil car and should last u for awhile, g'luck..

Re: 96 golf good car ????
Agree with the above... it's kind of a bargain, check it out well before making any move. But it's a good car, put it on Mobil 1 and don't make stupid thing with it and you'll be fine for a long run !
By stupid thing I mean stuff like : Spinning the wheels with a short turning radius, shifting at 5000rpm, take a dive in the ditch... like almost all VW, go easy on it and it'll go easy on your wallet (don't use this sentence for a 93-94 model though)!! |

Re: 96 golf good car ????
I just bought a 93 golf III GL with 137000 miles with a new tranny and a new clutch. Rims and wheels. Red and in great condition. I paid 2000 for it. I found that in the Star newspaper. Just make sure to look around and not just buy the first one you look at. Best of luck
