Since this is clearly going to be a big pick whorage thread...

Looking good.

Have you thought about adding a strut tower bar or endlinks to make the car handle better and avoid torquesteer and what not??

Anyway.

Oh well let the whorage begin....I was tempted to put all the engine pics of my LG3, LN3 and current but I think I will just put the L27 ones down.

I do not have any before photos but the engine had NEVER been cleaned or detailed before from what I could tell and was quite covered in several layers of grease/dust. Every area was pretty much dark brown or black. The valve cover gaskets were also shot before so oil had leaked out of them and dripped on the manifolds thus leaving residue for god knows how many miles.

Anyway if you are on 56k you might want to go to the store for a bit......

The Vin L GM 3.8, The last one without INTAKE PROBLEMS and was most likely the longest lasting of them all.

A view from even farther back

View of the back showing the aftermarket CAI, TB, and such

view from the front of the engine.

A view of the front looking down into the accessories. Note if you see the motor mount there....that is a bad thing since that has to be removed in order to change the water pump (Water pump removal and installation is a 4 hour job)

View of the upper end of the front area. Note: I did clean up the coil packs after that photo

Water pump, POS GM Alternator, Tensioner, and front side stuff.

Back to back we have the TB here and the electronics and sensors.

A view of the TB again.

Another Angle of the TB.

Brake Master Cylinder and Booster along with ABS Module

ABS Pump.

Note: That is what happens when you throw in 4 cans of engine decreaser, 1 roll of tinfoil (for covering electronics), 2 rolls of paper towels (for drying off and getting grime off), 1 bottle of windex (electronics and touchup), and a hose connected into your washer and dryer hookup area (hot water) going outside.

Ok, i just got done cleaning the cover for real. I had to take it off and soak it in degreaser for 15 mins then scrub and scrub but i finally got the majority of it off. I just realized how dirty the cover really was..
Here's an after shot

OOO the insides

BTW, how tight are the cover screws suppose to be? They were pretty loose and didn't take much effort at all to get unstuck. That might be the source of all the leakage.. Who knows.....
I have degreaser but am pretty afraid to get it all wet. There are so many electronics to cover. What things do i have to cover to be able to throw on the degreaser, and let it sit, then hose it down?

OO one more thing, where can i get a bar from and how much is it?

The service manual says the rocker arm covers are suspose to torque to 88-IN-LBS. Remember that is Inch NOT Foot. It also says to apply thread locking compound to the threads. When you tighten the bolts rember to do them in steps around the cover to help seal it square to the surface.

you need to NOT GET THOSE VERY TIGHT AT ALL. they are plastic and will crack which causing a REAL oil leak.

just get the valve cover gaskets at any local auto parts store.

if you are going to do a top engine detail, make sure you seal off the alternator, coil packs and intake box. the rest of the electronics are designed to take high pressure water, IE a carwash sprayer.
