Dash Ticking Noise

Noticed a ticking noise on and off coming from somewhere in the dash. At first it was just at a stop then I would hear the tick driving too. Any ideas?

Re: Dash Ticking Noise

I have no idea what the problem is but I think I have the same thing you do. Does it sound like it's coming from behind the instrument cluster or maybe a little to the left? It's faint but I notice it. Wish I knew what it was.

Re: Dash Ticking Noise

yes, it sounded like it was coming from the instrument panel, or maybe the centre...it was very faint...almost like a muffeled turn signal sound. the noise was gone today...strange.

Re: Dash Ticking Noise

It does seem to disappear at times and come back. Mine seems to be a little faster tick than a turn signal. It's probably like if you had a piece of paper stuck in a box fan on low. Really faint though.

Re: Dash Ticking Noise

I think I noticed mine after a ran my first batch of SeaFoam through the brake booster vacuum. Since the booster is over in that area it might have something to do with it?

Re: Dash Ticking Noise

I have what seems to be the same sound, only I pinpointed my sound to be coming from a hole in my headliner right above my head. I justnoticed it the other day and started looking for it. And, it comes and goes. The hole is about the size of a half dollar and is a quick light tapping noise. When you put your ear against it, it sounds like a blower motor of some kind.....hmmmm. Any ideas anyone?

Re: Dash Ticking Noise

I took mine in under warranty (30K miles) for that problem and the tech spent 6 hours systematically taking my dash apart and test driving it. I believe that it was a baffle or something deep in the dash, which he added some kind of padding to and got rid of it. I now have 65K on it and it is coming back......

Re: Dash Ticking Noise

It's not your keys slapping the shifter or the dash, is it? Mine were doing that and it tooke me a while to figure out where the noise was coming from.

Re: Dash Ticking Noise

i have the same noise, it only happens when i step on the brakes to put the truck in gear. doesn't happen all the time. i guess its just another problem with gm's shitty braking system

dash clicking

When i release my parking brake the light sensor turns on my running light, thats when I hear a clicking noise. When Im driving if I go under a bridge that light sensor will click probally turning on my headlights. I even hear it when a dark cloud passes over. Just my 2 cents maybe this is what you are hearing.

if you take your dash off youll notice some thin sticks with ruber ends on them. (put truck in 1st gear and just pull the front dash piece off) yea it doesnt seem right but just yank it off. the little pieces are attacted to the dash piece that just rippes off and they press against the instrument window. I noticed that two of the little stick things had broken and fallen into the dash assembly...i believe that these pieces are what are making the little ticks behind my dash because it olny happens during certain driving conditions(vibrations).

Thanks for the tip! It's nice having an "inside man" on the board
