hey all, well i have a 1995 cavalier 2.2 auto, and i incounterd a problem today(last night too), my car has 150,000 miles on it, and it runs pretty good, i alwas change the old, i just put new spark plugs and i have a few mods(intake ,exhaust, headers etc. nothing internail), last night i went to a gas station and i put gas in my car and i started it and a bunch of white looking smoke blew out like crazy! and i turned my car off and looked at everthing and i turned it back on and it stoped.....then i drove around today for over a hour and half and no smoke....i let the car sit for a while at lunch and i got somthing to eat, and then i started it and it blew smoke out again like crazy(white) i parked it and left it on(smoke kept coming out but not that much) and checked the engine, turned it off, check the old, it wasnt down, it wasnt misfiring.....i doubt its a head gasdsit cuz the car doesnt overheat at all and it would if it was that....i looked and its mostly white, but it does look a little blueish....i drove it for another 30 mins and the smoke went away for the most part....it only smokes when i go wot or put it in park ur nutral and rev it...can someone help me asap! thanks!

Could be a fuel leak of some kind. I know fuel makes a nice white and sometimes other colored smoke. And if this happend after filling up it might just be a fuel leak. You may want to check and make sure there are no leaks anywhere. Do you know where the smoke is comming from by chance? That would also help for a more clear cut answer and it needs to be at least a little more spacific then just saying "from the engine" as Ive seen some people do.

Sounds like you may have a cylinder ring (or 2) stuck. could be the rings are showing wear and oil is leaking past them and burning with the gas. You'll usually get a few seconds of white smoke at the tailpipe until the oil/gas mix burns away. If the smoke appears after sitting at a light too, and starting away, then it's most likely the car is burning the oil that leaks past the rings. Sometimes an hour or more of hard hi-way driving can cause the ring(s) to get unstuck and reseat,(if it don't worsen the problem).
A cylinder leakdown test would offer more insight in this case. Tookie |

Check your transmission fluid level. Could be burning that up.

if it comes down to being a piston ring leaking pouring some crap in the engine is not the fix. it might help stop some of the smoke but its still gonna be there even if its not enough for you to see while you are driving. the real way to fix is to replace the piston ring.]

A simple can of additive could work here imo. The ring seal just may be stuck and in need of something to disperse enough material to reseat it. One advantage of adding such a product is that it can be used as a troubleshooting aid. If the problem continues after adding, it most likely means further tsing is needed.
Of course I don't cotton to using additives to solve engine problems, unless they prevent the recurrence of the same problem. Additives can sometimes "be" the problem...lol Tookie |
