Re: can you do this?

Nope. 2 ohms in parallel or 8 Ohms in series are the only combos of 2 4 Ohm subs.

it is possible however I dont know whether it would provide the performance you are looking for. you would need to produce a VERY high voltage coil with a 2ohm impedance. Wire it in series with the two subs in parallel and you will theoreticly have your 4ohm load to the amp.

you will not get any additional power over using the dual channels on your amp as opposed to the single channels.

Re: can you do this?

that's not what he was asking... he has 2 single coil 4 ohm subs. Not 4. Yes you could have two sets of two subs in parallel to make a 4 ohm load to the amp, but that's not what he asked.

read closely, i said a COIL with a 2ohm load - you can buy one at radio shack.

take the TWO 4ohm subs, wire them parallel to 2ohm, take the 2ohm COIL and put it in series. Then you have a 4 ohm load... its called impedance matching, home audio speakers use it often. I doubt if it will offer high enough power handling for automotive aplication though.

Re: can you do this?

Oh ok, your wording was confusing me I guess...

"you would need to produce a VERY high voltage coil"?

How do you "produce" a high voltage coil? Yeah, that would work, but going to 8 Ohms, while less efficient, is probably the safer route.

Radio Shack orders it for you.
really really think copper wiring wound about 1000 times should be close to 2ohms the problem would be not inducting the signal while maintaining the resistance. as the coil heated up its resistance would drop and your amp would fry or the coil would distort the output signal making the bass very dirty.
