Raced an LT1 Trans Am

I was on the highway heading to the mall, when I notice a red LT1 Trans Am pull up next to me. It was a 97' with the WS6 Ram Air. Well there's traffic not too far ahead and this guy keeps punching it and letting off. I notice on his rear hatch window a "12." written in white shoe-polish like they have at the track. It sounded mean as hell, so he obviously had exhaust but not sure what else. Anyways he gets off the freeway and I follow behind. As soon as we turn I move to the lane next to him and we both have our windows down..the guy said something similar to "You ready to lose?" I assume he said that because my Formula looks like a V6...So we're rollin at about 20 and he punches it. I couldn't hear if he had a 6-spd or auto..my cutout was open My auto downshifts to 1st and I pull even with him. It chirps 2nd hard, and gives me a little jump to about 1/2 car lead (I love my auto with shift kit) 3rd comes and I'm almost a car length ahead of him. I let off and he does too, but he then turns into a neighborhood before I could ask what he had done. Maybe he was embarassed that a high 13 second car beat his 12 second T/A This was probably the closest and best race I've ever had...just a couple of "slow LT1's" as some of you say.

BTW this is my first post..anyone here from AZ (Mesa, Gilbert area) lemme know and we'll cruise sometime

With a shitty 2.35 60' (bald tires) I pulled a 13.976 @ 102.34 Once I get some sticky's I should see mid 13's no problem. As far as beating the "12 second" Trans Am, I meant it as in he obviously doesn't run 12's. I guess the guy was just tryin to pose as a 12 second car

Or maybe the guy was lame enough to write 12 on the back of his car? Just a thought.

Re: Raced an LT1 Trans Am

I just think he has an infatuation with the number 12. Probably saw a good episode of Sesame Street or something about the number 12 .

Good race and great post. Welcome to AF. Is there by chance a link to your Cardomain page? I'd like to check out your car. TA's are my fav cars. L8...

Re: Raced an LT1 Trans Am

Hard to say. He might be in the 12's if he sprays....who knows what he might have had that he didn't use.

Either way, nice kill. Are you sure it was a dial-in?? There were a couple cars at the track today that had car numbers that could have been dial-in numbers. Hell, my car number today was 9018.

And LT1's aren't slow, until you hit about 75 MPH.
Just playin.

Not sure if it was a Dial-In, but he just simply had a 12 with a . I know a guy who had a T/A as well, I asked him why he wrote 12.5 on his back window and he replied "To scare mustangs" so I figured this guy was a possible poser too. Mr. Luos I know what you mean...these LT1's start to run out of steam top-end wise. Infact, in about a week or so I'm gonna solve that problem when I order a TNT Nitrous kit

EDIT* Btw Civ, my cardomain is http://www.cardomain.com/id/94sinister
