Hi I have a 200o Jetta GLS auto with 76k on it. The gas Guage Stays at Half Full All the time. I hav eheard that there is a relay for this isthat trua nd could someone please tell me where I can find it. If that's not the problem then I heard it is the Fuel sender which I think is very expensive. (like $300.00). Please help me fix my Car. I really dont want to run out of gas again. I hate that!!! Don't you . LOL
Thanks for the help My fellow VW peeps Jeff |

Re: 2000 Jetta Auto Gas Guage Stays at 1/2 Full All The Time HELLLPPPP!!!!
For now, Fill the gas tank to the top each time you fill it. That way you can use your mileage as a guage. Remember what you got on a full tank? If you're only driving work and home type routes, 250 miles sounds reasonable to use up most of the tank without running out. More if you're in rural areas, less in big cities as the math goes.
Well... first thing you could do since it's a GLS is go to autozone or pepboys or wherever and buy the hanes repair manual for it. That'll help you locate all those nifty parts and probably even tell you how to replace them. Next thing to do is figure out which is broken... don't have much help to offer there (haven't replaced those yet on my 00 jetta vr6, so don't know the tricks). Last is to buy the part, I reccomend 1-800-VW-PARTS. Genuine parts, super cheap, delivered cod so you've gotta be home when the parts are delivered or have them sent to work. |

Fuel senders commonly go bad.

This happened on my 99 Jetta. The dealer was unable to fix, however a small VW repair shop fixed it and the cost was minimal. We drove around for a couple years using the trip meter to determine when it was time to fill up, and ran out of gas once!
