Its been almost 2 years since the fall of Baghdad. Alot of things have happened in Iraq in those 2 years.
Today I was reading the liberal newspaper in my home town. In the paper was an AP story about protests being planned in Iraq against the US. But what caught my eye was the part that the insurgents are targeting everyone no matter what they believe. The insurgents have targeted supporters of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr Friday killing one supporter and injuring 2 others. This is the same Sadr that fought against the US occupation. The same Sadr that wanted the US out of Iraq. Now the insurgents are targeting Sadr supporters. Wouldn't it be wise for the insurgents not to be going around killing people that share the same opnions of the US and killing the people who want the same thing. This doesn't sound like they are too smart to me. Sheik Harith al-Dahri who is believed to have ties to the insurgents stated this "We demand that the occupation troops withdrawl from Iraq. We don't want them to do it immediately, but we want them to set a timetable for withdrawl". If you have ties to the insurgents and are killing American soilders, trying to force the US out of Iraq why is he saying he doesn't want the US out of Iraq right now? Maybe the Shiek when to the John Kerry school of logic!

![]() I must say that things shouldn't be as they are right now. The world is complaining why we're there and frankly we seem to be pussy footing around. We can either do one of two things to make things better. The first option everybody seems to want and that is to pack up and leave right now. Some want us to finish the job though and to do that we have to stop all this red tape crap and kick some ass. If the world doesn't like it then they can send in their troops and stop the insurgents in any way they see fit. We don't seem to be doing anything though and are just standing there letting these crazy nut cases shoot holes into us. Something needs to be done and soon.

As I've stated in several other threads, with no outside intervention, they will continue to kill themselves. When the US leaves, guess what? They'll continue the terrorist bombings. Against their own people, and even their own side.

Such is the way in the Middle East.To believe that democracy as we know it would be tolerated there was a foolish assumption.Another reason why the mission has failed, and will continue to fail regardless of how many 'insurgents' get killed.Bush should bring the troops home and resign. He's a failure. |

Re: 2 years ago
I believe that asking for Bush's resignation and the US leaving Iraq are different issues at this time; though I do admire your focus on the issue. His success is a mixed bag, as becoming president (yes, by 51%) is a sign of a successful politician.
Agreed that the US needs to get out of Iraq, and very soon. Agreed that trying to force democracy on all cultures is a mistake. Agreed that it's a pity the middle eastern culture espouses the terrorism towards and the killing of your own people, regardless of which side they're on.

Re: 2 years ago
I agree they need out, but I don't agree that they can just drop everything and abandon ship. There needs to be more work done in establishing some sanity through the region. Democracy is not about religion, its about order. Any religion, and any culture should be able to function with a democracy. It doesnt have to be the same as the USA, but at least lets set up a government with a team of leaders and rules, and the means to enforce them before we bail. Otherwise the insurgents will destroy all the progress made in 2 yrs in less than a month. I personally would like to see the iraqi people living free lives without fear before our soldiers leave.
