A Soldier Now And A Soldier In The Past

I dont think this really belongs in politics or current affairs

Is it just in the movies or is there a big difference being a soldier now and in the past? In Vietnam movies it shows soldiers on their down time in cities, getting laid (Me So Horny), drinking beers and it seems like they can be themselves on their downtime. But when i see Iraq, the soldiers are in the middle of the desert, in tents, drinking non-alcoholic champagne on New Years. Living, breathing Army and just doing their job. Do they ever just stop, take the hum-vee to bagdad and chill out? Grab a bud?

Somebody straighten out the facts for me...

Re: A Soldier Now And A Soldier In The Past

I was talking to one of my friends who was on leave for the last 3 weeks and for him that's basically what happens. He says he doesn't mind since he's just happy to be alive at the end of the day. But he said that a few people that he knows actually hung out in a couple of Saddam's mansions for a few days...I dunno if he was just trying to mess with me or not.

Re: A Soldier Now And A Soldier In The Past

From what I seen and heard from a couple of friends over there, they do chill around the camps. Going into town in Iraq is different from Vietnam. There was a safe zone.

In Iraq, the only real guranteed safe zone in Irag qre the camps. But they say it can be fun. It's war or w/e you wanna call it. It's not all fun but it has its times.

Just how they put it. Also, if you check out ebaums and some places like that, you'll see videos sent in from soliders in Iraq and some of the stuff they do. Ain't bad. You could also check out some other sites, if ya know what I mean.

I mean...*cough* What??? I'm innocent!

^If you're reffering to me, one of my friends sent in a video. Plus they put a long one online on my school's website. I forgive you of your ignorance and comment.

If you're referring to Gotti, then...heck, i don't care.

A few of my very close friends have been in armed forces at a point in there lives some family where in also I'll be in ROTC soon. I see much ignorance to base veiws of a soliders life on watching Full Metal Jacket.

LMAO... that was partly a joke

Notice how i said, "straighten out the facts for me" at the end

And how should i know if thats really what happened in vietnam or not? I wasnt there. Thats why i ask

Do soldiers in Iraq ever get a chance to drink some beers? Cause when i saw how they had non-alcoholic champagne on new years, i thought things must be more strict now

Are you talking about something recreational to do? If so please tell me you don't think those countries are nothing but sand.
