1991 talon 5 speed...help buying new vehicale

1991 eagle talon..i'm planing on buying one but before i do there are a few things i would like to say about the car and you guys tell weather or not the car is worth it...now first off its front wheel drive 5 speed 2.0 N/A...the car has 147,000 miles great tires, has one thing of rust on the fender...the breaks need new rotors and pads because they are making that grinding sound....the runs fine....and the clear coat is coming off...so the car is 700...now for me this car sounds good...needs some work but with the money i save i have enough to fix the brakes and i can sand the rust myself...then i plan on sanding the whole car...giving it another coat of new white...the same as the stock color and putting a new clear coat on...now does this car sound good or no...is there anything that i really need to look out for when buying this car...i know rust and all that because my car now is rusted to fuck...also is this engine tunable really....can i swap it out for the turbo version...no yes...any really good mods that i can get a lot of power out of...

Re: 1991 talon 5 speed...help buying new vehicale

well i have done the swap..but everytime i look for someone that has acually done the swap i can't find anyeone...i want to know if it is really as hard as everyone says...i mean if i have to i will just buy another 2.0 N/A and get the fored internals for that and turbo that....then i guess i could make even more hp with that seeing as how it will be all custom and build...and oh yea...i have seem stroker kits for 2.3 or what not...i was wondering what this is..i have heard of it in mustangs never new what they were...but what would be the advantige of this...good or bad for turbos also

oh one more question...head lights...on 91's they had pop up headlights...if the head lights are stuck open then that isn't a motor problem because they each have seperete motors...this could be a fuse problem...you know just change the fuse out and i should be fine i'm guesing...or is it something else

My kid recently bought a 92-talon with a non-turbo 2.0L engine, 5-speed trans with 135K-miles. Only buy a Talon if you can service it yourself, otherwise the maintenance costs will eat you alive.

We have spent over $500 in parts for this car in the last 3 weeks. It needed an exhaust-manifold, Fr-pipe, CV-boots, 3 belts, upper/lower radiator hoses, water-pump, thermostat, 2 timing-belts, timing belt pulleys, valve-cover gasket, and we're not done yet. It is probably going to need a clutch this summer. Also, the gears grind when shifting into second.....which is probably going to cost even more money. It's a money pit, but I'm helping my kid only because I want him to learn to do this stuff. If we had to pay for labor, it probably would have cost another grand.

I rate these cars as more difficult than most to service.
