Installing new cd/radio player

I have a serious question. if i have a new cd/radio player installed and take out the factory installed unit, will it cause my air bags and other safety equip. not to work. The person i talked to said the unit had to be put in the trunk and not taken out because of the air bags and so forth. Is this true.
