1990 B2600i 4x4 help - Need engine info

Hopefully I"ll be picking up a 90 B2600i 4x4 for $500, needs a motor, other than that it's excellent.

What motor's will swap inplace and bolt up to the transmission. I'm having a hard time finding the 2.6 locally. I did find it in Tampa however but they want $1300 for an 80,000 mile motor. That's toooo much.

Thanks for any reply's

Alex

Hey Alex,

Check Ebay, I saw a couple of motors on there not too long ago. Of course, if you have to install a new engine anyway, you might want to think about a 3.0 V6 out of a Mazda MPV mini-van. You'll get another 30 hp and a little more torque, I am pretty sure it matches the tranny and maybe even the engine mounts.

Good luck,

Luke

Re: 1990 B2600i 4x4 help - Need engine info

Well, to get the existing 2.6 machined out, $575 labor, no parts
then I'd have to buy gaskets, oil pump, etc...toooooo much money

Junkyard has a 22.6 for %500, 80,000 miles, I may be buying another problem.

I would LOVE to know for sure if the 3.0 will bolt up to the transmission, and what is required for the swap! Ebay has 3.0's at half the cost of the 2.6, AND they seem to be a better motor.

Please someone confirm this!

Thanks!
Alex

I've heard of one guy that swapped out his g6 for a '88 Nissan 300zx V6, I have also heard that a Ford 351 Windsor fits quite nicely--but yoiu would definately need a beefier rear end, you'd tear it to pieces the first time you dropped the clutch.

For info on engine swaps I'd check out a b2000/2200/2600 street truck forum, those guys do some crazy mods. Also check out minitruckin' magazine, mazda minis are all over it.
