99 Z71 4WD Auto Transfer Case Issue

Hello,

My 99 Z71 has a long list of problems but I would like to focus on one of the more irritable.

I have an intermittant auto transfer case problem that prohbits me from moving from one drive to another. It simply will not respond (most of the time). The pilot lights on the switch will sometimes be illuminated, sometimes not. The switch seems inoperative most of the time and then suddenly works fine. I get a "Service 4WD" on the message center often as well. Okay. I'll admit. One time I whacked the dash over the switch and the darn thing came to life. Subsequent whacks when the problem returned did not fix it however.

Before I go any further trying to troubleshoot, I was wondering if any of you have any experience with this problem. Whacking the dash with my hand does not seem to be a permanent repair.

Thanks in advance......Paul T

Search the forum, bad switches are very common.

common problem. Most people have said it was solved by replacing the switch in the dash. I even believe there is a TSB about the service 4wd problem that you are speaking of.
