Question resetting "change engine oil"

I've tried several times to reset the message "change engine oil" according to the instruction from the manual and I still got the same message. Can anyone help me how to do it right? Thanks.

Re: resetting "change engine oil"

The button for your trip odo. Keep pressing it until the oil life is displayed. Hold the button in until it resets to 100%.

Thanks for the reply. I have a 2000 montana that in order to reset the engine oil message, it requires to turn the key to "run" and push the gas petal and release slowly for three times within 5 seconds. I tried several times and the message is still on. Any helpful tips will be appreciated. By the way, does anyone know which fuse is for the message center?

Re: resetting "change engine oil"

Are you sure about pushing the gas pedal?
Mine says to push brake pedal for 3-5 seconds with ignition on but engine not running. Remember to put trip/odo to oil and have button pressed at the same time also.
That instruction is in the manual.

Re: resetting "change engine oil"

Yewtrees, our 2000 Venture has the "gas pedal reset" procedure, which I've been able to do OK. The only recommendation is to do press the gas pedal 3 times in 5 seconds, but to do it quickly rather than slowly, making sure you use full travel for the gas pedal. That worked fine for me. Sorry, don't know about fuses for the message center.

Thanks, ggcatt. I will try to do it quickly instead of slowly and see what happens. Someone told me that if I unplug and plug the fuse of the message center, it will reset the message as well. Why does it have to be that hard just to reset the engine oil? Whoever invented the idea needs to be fired. :-)

Re: resetting "change engine oil"

Yewtrees, let us know if you are successful. The newer models use the odometer button to reset, so it's simplier. I wouldn't pull any fuses unless you are desperate.

I did it, ggcatt!!!!!!! Thank you so much for your knowledge. The instruction was wrong on the manual. We needed to change it from "slowly" to "quickly". Afterall, I love my Montana. It is a great family minivan.
