Suggestions for Anti theft switch location

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good place for an anti-theft switch? and what is the best way to do it?
I cut into the ignition switch wire earlier and mounted a switch under the seat but it shorted out and blew the 100 amp main fuse..
I was thinking of trying to find the fuel pump power supply and interrupt it instead ( I did that with a previous car with success)
Is there something better? Has to be within reach of cockpit, as I don't want to open the hood everytime I park, so a battery disconnect is out.

I don't know whether you have an automatic or a standard shift. If you have a standard like I do you can put a toggle switch in the lower dash to disable your starter. Just cut the wire on one side of the clutch switch. It's a spring loaded plunger at the top of the clutch pedestal. Run one lead into one side of the toggle switch and run the other lead into the other side. With the switch off it will disable your starter. Leave a little slack in the wires so you can twist them together if your switch fails. The only way a thief will be able to get your car will be if he pushes it and pops the clutch to start it. Most are too lazy to do this. They will go onto greener pastures. There is only about a foot's distance between the clutch switch and the toggle switch and I have found this to be the easiest way to disable my vehicle.

I have an automatic. I was looking for a neutrel safety switch but there appears to be a mechanical cable assy. linking the center console shifter with the ign. switch instead of an electrical connection.
There is too much juice running thru that Ignition wire that I spliced into. Even though I taped the switch, the tab broke off the switch and grounded causing the main to blow.
I wonder if the fuel cutoff-inertia switch would be good to tap into?

That sounds like a good suggestion. No fuel-no steal car. It is a long ways back to the trunk to get to it. Maybe you could find a connection under the dash if you have a book to tell the color of the wires. I don't.
On most automatics I know that the brake pedal has to be depressed to get the car out of park. It is the current sensed at the brake pedal switch that allows this. If you could put a toggle switch on the hot wire going to the brake pedal switch I think that would keep the car from being taken out of park. This is what I've heard. You might see if the car will shift out of park without the pedal being pressed. If it won't this will work for you. Even if they got it started they couldn't take it anywhere. You've got some good ideas and I would go with them. I think the switch would work anywhere you want to put it. You might disconnect the negative terminal of the battery while you are working on it to avoid any shorts. Good luck. You've got some good ideas.

i spliced a switch into my inertia switch. i barely ever use it, so i didnt bother puitting it in a driver seat accessible place, but it would be very easy to add a couple feet of wire and thread it under the second row seats so that it is mounted under the front edge of the cushion, or tucked away underneath. that is where the fuel pump is located anyways.

the clutch kill switch is a cleaner idea, which i didnt think of at the time, and would probably do if i had to do it again.
