95 Sunfire alternator help.

My 95 Sunfire was running fine till this morning. On my way to work the lights started dimming and the radio started to blink. There was also a smell like hot wires. I assumed the alternator had died. I towed it home and replaced the alternator. I've found that the new alternator is also gettting extremely hot and there is a sound like 2 clicks near the alternator when I turn the key to the on position. Any ideas?

Re: 95 Sunfire alternator help.

...maybe you fried a wire, and the clicks are coming from a gap in the wire and making a spark which could be unsafe. I'd check out how much power my alt was putting out, and id check the battery too, since you replaced the alt it should be running at normal, so if its coming up as not having a full charge, then its probably a wire thing. how hot is the alt becoming. also, are you sure the wires are in right on the alt. there should be (atleast in my car) 2 wires coming out of the alt, one i believe is the ground and the other carries the charge out. make sure the ground is on correctly.

I found that the alterenator was getting so hot because of how dead the battery was. I charged the battery and have solved that problem. I've also found that the clicking isn't coming from the alt. but actually from the brake controls. It wasn't there before my alt. problems any ideas?
