2.25'' exhaust too small?

I talked to an exhaust shop today and they told me they would put on any muffler I wanted (that they had in-store in-stock) plus a full cat-back exhaust for $130. I thought that was a little cheap, but I'm not complaining.

And I asked about a 2.5'' piping and he told me he can't bend anything that big, but the biggest he can do is 2.25''. Is that going to produce any power on a NT motor or should I go for something bigger?

Hey, if you are looking for power, try to stay away from a bend that will reduce the diameter of the pipe. It may be a little more expensive, but if you get the exhaust done custom and can get it mandrel bent, you will get more power. Basically instead of just popping it in a machine and bending the pipe, it has to be filled with sand, then bent. This will keep a continious diamter without kinking it at the curve.

That's what he was telling. He can bend the pipe without crimping the tube any up to 2.25'', but after that it bends, which is why he can't do 2.5'' piping.

I think he is saying that 2.25'' won't kink bad, but anything larger will. I bet he is still using a press bender, which is not the good method. 2.25 should be fine on an n/t anyway.

I think I'll probably go have that done after the car is out of the shop, along with a generic intake pipe + K&N Filter and some plugs and wires.

That's what I was expecting it to be...$200 and up, I nearly shit a brick when he told me it'd only be that much. I think I'm going with the 2.25'' piping with a 3" tip.

Just so you know, if you dont go with the mandrel bent pipe, a 2.25" pipe will give you the power equal to mandrel bent pipe with about a 1.75" Diameter. If you want power. go with a mandrel bent pipe, otherwise it will simply reduce your power.

You can still make power with press bent, but need larger diam piping, like 3 in. Mandrel is better tho, but can be done with 3 in press bent.

Wow that is a pretty good deal. Is that catback? does that include a muffler or what? include installation? is it Stainless Steel?

It's a cat-back exhaust, includes muffler, and they will make it and install it for you right then.

Not sure about what it's made of yet. After I get the front of the car fixed and out of the shop I'm going back over there to see what they're made of, and what they use to make them.

For that price, just get a dual exhaust... Even if a 2.25'' crush bent is equal to 1.75'' mandrel, you'd make power with a dual 2.25'' crush bent cat-back exhaust. ...unless you get a turbo, that should be more than enough.

There's only one exhaust manifold, so there can't be a "dual exhaust". The pipe would be split somewhere. And wouldn't improve performance only looks.

No offense, but even though there's only one exhaust manifold wouldn't splitting it either after the manifold, or after the cat, decrease back pressure; therefore, increasing the possibility for hp? ... I agree that just welding an extra tube close to the first muffler would only be for looks.

He could also do what I'm in the process of fabing... I'm making an exhaust manifold that connects two cylinders to each of the exhausts. Even then, it's a good idea to have an H pipe (connecting the two exhaust tubes) to even out pressure...
