Having Severe problems...
Hi everyone. I just took a 400 mile trip in my RX7 however on the way back I noticed I was losing a lot of water however I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. When I was about 10 miles from home I heard a pop and looked under the hood and found that the hose going to the heater core had blown... Anyway I got that fixed and I don't know if this is related to it getting to hot or not. But when I get to about 3500 rpm's it becomes the most gutless car i've ever driven. I can't pass anyone and have so little power its rediculous... I hope my engine isn't blown or could it be a sending unit of some kind? Its like the whole car lost half its power... Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Re: Having Severe problems...
does it lose power just real quick or everything above that has no power?

Re: Having Severe problems...
Everything above that has no power. I almost can't accelerate past it even if I drop it down a gear it will just hang at a certain rpm and not accelerate.

Re: Having Severe problems...
Did you overheat the car at all, if so, for how long?

Re: Having Severe problems...
looks like the pop was from the engine, and that the hose was blown before you heard the pop
so, my guess is that you've got a blown engine now, put 600$ on the side, order the pieces you gonna need and make a rebuilt bbq with some friends! a rebuilt bbq is always fun |

Re: Having Severe problems...
Yeah I kinda have a feeling the engine is blown. I'm going to try a different set of injectors a friend has otherwise i'll probably do the rebuild... I Just don't want to put more money into this car than it is worth.
Also I'm pretty sure that pop was from the hose as it wasn't soaked around the hose until I heard that pop then there was a big split down the side of it and any water i put in would drain on the ground... Also I brought it very close to overheating several times.. if not fully overheating it... However I'm not so surprised as It would blow a gnarly cloud of white smoke every so often as the coolant seals are blown... I guess it is just time... But is it really worth it? I spent $350 on the car... It has APEXI intake a brand new paint job some recent body work.. window tint... And it cost me $120 to register it... Any opinions? (sorry if this paragraph didn't make a lot of sense) Also has a new battery, oil pump and starter |

Re: Having Severe problems...
sounds like it would be a very very nice car if the engine was still up to par.. to me this means get the dang rebuild.
I'm doing basically the same thing haha

Re: Having Severe problems...
My next question is what do I absolutely have to buy to do the rebuild? Apex seals coolant seals oil seals and what else? I don't want to buy one of those $800 rebuild so I'd like to buy what I need as I am poor hehe

Re: Having Severe problems...
If you severely overheated the engine, its probably trashed pretty bad, i.e. warped housings and such. But you never know till you pull it and see.

I dunno about that. I was able to drive it home and its not seized up or anything. Now it just tried to start but can't.

Quote:
dont try to run it, you'll waste it more than it is you should have stopped the engine right when it blew. if i was u, i'd look for a used engine, and i'd have mine opened up to look at the damage caused, to see if it wouldnt be cheaper to buy a used housing and rotor and proceed to a rebuilt |
