140k miles too high???
Hey there,
Ok, I havent sold my 98 TA yet. But, I found a really nice 98 camaro Z28 for sale. Problem is, it haS 140kmiles on it. Supposedly mostly highway, and it has a clean carfax report. My 98 TA had only 58k miles on it. I am wondering if its worth buying a camaro with 140K miles? I just dont want to buy the car(its private, not a dealer) and then start having problems with it. Look wise it looks great, looks like its been kept up really nicely, but then looks can be decieving. Any advise would be great. Thanks TA |

Re: 140k miles too high???
Personally, I wouldn't ever buy a car with over 75,000 miles. Unless it is a daily driver/beater.
I have talked to guys that had 110,000 on their LS1 car when they supercharged it. Had no problems. Best bet, go drive it. Listen to the motor while it is idling. Use the throttle cable to rev it a little with the hood up. If you hear anything outta the ordinary, be careful.

NO, NO, NO
I have 137k on my firebird. Yes its a 3.8 but still. I have had every problem imagineable. From headlights to leaky t- tops. Not to mention motor problems that have cost 2k. Some of these problems like the fuel pump could happen to any size motor. I blame this on the 137k on the car.

Re: 140k miles too high???
I got my car with 174k miles on it, and it currently has 175k miles. When I first got the car, I had to change the thermostat, but thats really it motor wise, besides a tune up. She runs like a champ.

Here's a piece of advise, everyone takes different care of there cars. Some people beat on them, and some people change the oil every 2500 miles on the dot.
I agree with Mr. Luos, take the car for a drive and decided for yourself, but why would you sell your 98 TA with 58K for a 98 Camaro with 140K? |

I don't think I would do it just because even taking fairly good care of those cars, after 100K they start having the GM problems that all the maintenance in the world won't prevent. Windows, locks, various sensors, cooling system issues, etc. all need attention again at that mileage...not to mention the tranny if it hasn't already been rebuilt. My T/A had rear diff. issues too even though I changed the fluid every 30K miles. I would try and keep an eye out for one with lower miles unless it is cheap. If its cheap and you can afford all the misc. BS that might need attention then go for it. Just be ready to spend money on the nickel and dime crap at the very least.
