Mileage

What are you folks getting for mileage? My 04 Z71 w/ the 5 cylinder with auto trans is getting a constant 19 MPG on the highway and I drive it very conservativly. The sticker says I should get 26. I know that's optimum but I seem to be far below their claims.

Re: Mileage

Mines an '05 and it's getting about the same. I thought it should be a little better than that. If thats all its gonna get, i wonder what an intake would do for it.

I have a 2005 Z85 LS ext cab 4x4 with the 4 cyl motor ( 5 speed ) and I average between 23mpg and 25mpg driving back and forth to work. However on a trip from NY to MD I averaged only 21 mpg on the highway because I kept having to drop to 4th gear to get up the hills.

I have an '04 std cab/I5/Auto/air/4x4/Z71. The best for me was 24.9 MPG average over three consecutive fillups on a trip from NY to GA. For the most part, I drove five to ten over the limit. I stopped checking after that. My S10 4.3 never got better than 22 MPG in 175000 miles.

The other thing - I have heard in the past that a red vehicle attracts a lot of attention from the police. My S10 was blue/silver, but with the Colo (red), I don't notice any extra attention.

mpg

I am not sure the exact mpg, but when I first bought it at the end of August 04 I was only getting about 300 miles before a fill up when the low fuel light came on.This past spring I was going about 360 miles before a fiill up which I was happy about but now for some reason it is back down to 300 which is about 15 mpg. I thought maybe there was a break in period but now I don;t Know. It is a 5 cyl. Any one with any ideas? Unless some one has been siphoning gas from me I don't know why the mileage varies so much, it is all the same type of driving conditions.

Re: Mileage

I finally checked my Colo mileage with local driving. Over 280 miles, I got 21.1 MPG. This was with mostly 20-55 mph driving and a couple of ten mile trips at 70 or less. Lots of hills and red lights [none flashing though ]. It is an '04 std cab, I5, Auto, Z71 4X4, w/3.73 axle ratio. My best highway only MPG as stated in previously in this thread was 24.9 MPG.

The problem is that the fuel guages are not very accurate. They are just good enough to keep you from running out, and making you feel good when it is on full. You need to fill it yourself, set the trip meter, drive it for at least a couple of hundred miles, then fill it again yourself. Then you will know what your getting. Also, you should not let the tank get much below the 1/4 tank mark, so you don't run the risk of running the fuel pump dry. It is cooled with fuel and doesn't like running dry ($$$$$$).

Re: Mileage

I know all about running it too low. As far as the gauge goes, its fairly accurate and as of now my last two fillups were 16.5mpg 90% city and on my last trip to ky i got 21/20 so its probably a combo of break in + dealership being stingy.

Re: Mileage

2006 Z71 4 x 4 5 Cylinder, approximately 1200 miles, measured the last two fill ups, 20.4 on both, includes about 35 miles of daily interstate (65MPH) and 12-15 miles rural (35-55), any other 2006's?

Re: Mileage

It's a shame that it sounds like the I5 doesn't get much better mileage than the full size silverado. Mine silvy averages about 19 mpg and has gotten 22 or 23 if I'm being a slowpoke. But hey, at least you can park in the front of the lot.

Re: Mileage

I have a 2005 I5 4x4 crew cab, I get about 19-23mpg, depending on the driving. And I really don't baby it on the highway, and I drive between New York and Massachusetts weekly. During the week, I drive it to the grocery store once and that's about it.

Yeah, I need a truck (I am a home builder), and my Silverado is eating my lunch on gas. I was hoping the Colorado would be a nice alternative with better MPG
