New starter making weird noise
So I installed a new starter on my car cuz my car would just decide not to start sometimes. I managed to get the car started but only after I banged up the solenoid on the starter. I checked the battery it was fine. I unplugged the cables and car kept running so the alternator is fine. So anyway I install a new starter and now its making a harsh starting noise as if the starter is too strong or its trying to force the car to start (Cant really describe it, it just doesnt sound like its supposed too). Any feedback would be welcome thanks.

Re: New starter making weird noise
Starter is still making noise. The starter I purchased was a remanufactured starter that I got from Pep Boys. Should I just take it to the mechanics at PepBoys since I have a lifetime warranty on the starter? Or does anyone else have any ideas as to what is making that sound.

Re: New starter making weird noise
well, if the starter is not shimmed correctly, they can make some awfull noises. there should be room for adjustment in the starter holes, and sometimes there is too little clearance between the starter gear and the flywheel, so they whine and screech, this will just wear the parts out quicker, and usually much quicker. you might see if theres any way of adjusting the gear overlap distance
