hp engine question
HI,
i just brought up my truck from sea level to 4000ft and have had problems with gas in the oil. I have a holley dominator on it but im gonna have to get rid of it cuz how thin the air is up here so im gonna go with a 750hp holley. Anyways the cam specs are for 38 degrees advance timing but im at 33 right now cuz the altitude. does that sound good? I had it at 35 but it was making a weird ticking noise to a backed it up. Also Its a loud engine but would i be able to hear if i spun a bearing easy? Im just wondering cuz that gas in my oil. It didnt seem like that much gas off my dipstick but then i pulled to plug and it was pretty bad. thanx, david |

I can't really help on the timing specs, yet they sound about right.
As for the gas in the oil.... did you happen to flood the truck really bad one day? I've found that in my truck if it ever gets baddly flooded, that the gas tends to wash the cylinder walls, and seep down into the crankcase. I'd just suggest changing the oil and see if it puts more gas back in. I kinna doubt that you wouldn't hear a spun bearing... they tend to be quite noticable (in my opinion).

Re: hp engine question
ok. thanx, no i dont know of flooding it, but i found out that the dominator just wont work up here cuz how much air it sucks and there isnt enough air up here. But ill make sure i dont flood it. lol.

Re: hp engine question
Have you had the carb tuned since you moved? A carb tuned at sea level will run quite rich at 4000 feet.

Re: hp engine question
well ive adjusted the air mixtures and we had already jetted it down but the machine shop told me that for that type of carb i had it way to lean and that its just to big of a carb for my engine.
Im gonna borrow a 4150hp seires and see how it runs, cuz i cant even get it to be a smooth idle right now. thanx david |

Re: hp engine question
Oh wow, I overlooked the dominator part... Dominator is definately too big for anything on the street.

The Dominator is a race-only piece, and IMHO makes no sense for anything mild enough to be driven regularly on the street. |
