Impossiable 91 Legend Brake problem?

It all started when I first changed my rear brakes on my 91 Legend. The pads only lasted for about one year and once in a while when I would go for an extended period of time without applying pressure to the brakes a slight shimmy occured until the finally the whole car was shaking, the brakes would get really stiff and it was harder to stop the car, but once I stopped the car it would go away. The rear driver side break pads were worn out a lot more then the passanger side rear brakes so I thought that I had a Bad Caliber. But I just replaced the brakes for a second time and that's where the real problem started. The Shimmy was happening all the time now and the brakes rotors were getting hot. As long as I was using the braks all the time, no problem was noticable, but once I was on the freeway for 20 min or so, the shimmy started and I'd have to pull over or stop the car. I replaced the rear driver side caliber with one that I picked up at Autozone and along with changing both rotors. The problem stayed the same if not worse, the new rotors got so hot and purple that I had to take them back and get others until finally I had to put stock rotors back on.

I decided that the problem was above my knowledge and I took the car to Midus for a brake check up. They told me that I had the wrong pads on the car and that my front pads were cracked. I ended up taking the pads back and replacing both the front and rear pads, still no luck. Next I took it to the Acura dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. They told me that I have an after market Caliber and brake pads, which could be causing the problem.... even though the caliber was after market, it was made by the same company as the stock caliber. They also told me that my master brake cylinder had an internal leak, so i changed that also, but still no luck.

So here I am, still stuck with the same problem. My brakes get really stiff after not using them for an extended period of time and once they get stiff the pedal is obviously hard to push down and the shimmy occurs, along with the rotors getting hot and smoking. Now instead of just the rear rotors heating up all rotors will get smoking hot! But as long as i'm driving around town, no problem is noticable

Anyways sorry this is so long, but if anyone can help or give me some idea of what I should do, I would be greatly appreciative.

does your legend have abs? if so...that may be your problem. the abs unit could be locking up on one side of the car (which may explain the uneven wear and shimmying). i would also have the brake booster checked out.

Re: Re: Impossiable 91 Legend Brake problem?

Yes, it does have ABS brakes, the light has been on for over 3 years now, when I got it checked out 3 years ago they told me that the ABS module was bad and told me that it was over $600 to fix, when I passed on fixing it, they told me that a lot of people don't fix the problem, but just make do without ABS. So should I change the ABS Module or have them check the ABS brakes for some other problem??
