Hello, I'm going to turn 16 on February 13th, and I still don't know what car I'm going to get. Our family currently has the following cars:[list][*]2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD[*]2000 Ford Ranger Sport[*]2000 Suzuki Swift[*]1968 Pontiac Firebird[/b].

Only my mom and dad (and soon to be me) are licensed drivers since I only have one sister who is 10 . Anyway, there is a possibility I will get any of those 4 cars listed above, but probably not the Firebird.

However, our next door neighbor who is an ex-navy seal owns a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7. I think it's a nice car, and this guy takes really good care of it. He also has a BMW Wagon, and an Intrepid that looks a few years old. Lately he has been putting the Cougar outside, and my dad thinks he probably wouldn't mind selling it sometime soon. My dad also thinks he wouldn't charge much for it since he doesn't seem emotionally attached to it. It's black on black, and the paint job is excellent, not a scratch on the whole thing. I think it has "Magnum 500" rims, but I'm not 100% positive. It's an automatic, but if we purchased it, my dad would probably want to convert it into a stick sometime in the future. I really like the look of this car and my dad has owned 2 in the past and he said they drive pretty well. Sometime this week, probably Friday, my dad's going to talk to him to see what he thinks about it right now. I think this car would be awesome It will go nice in a drag race with my teammate's '69 Camaro

I'll report back and tell you guys what he says

Check that, it's a '69, not a '67

That sounds like a nice cougar, but I wouldn't recommend it for a first car. You should get something easier to drive so you can learn on it first. Plus, alot of teenagers get in a wreck when they first start driving, so it would be better to get in a wreck with a cheap car than a classic.

get it

how can you pass up a classic cougar? i dont know. i think you should get it. this guy just told you your gonna wreck, but if you have a car you really love and put your own money into, your probly not gonna wreck it. teenagers do wreck cars a lot, most of them are in cars their parents bought them and pay their insurance and gas for and are usually jackasses. just a thought. cougars are badass

Thumbs up

67's are a beautiful year. I just bought my first car (which happens to be a 68 Cougar GT) and it's a dream. A lot of the cougars (possibly all, but not sure) don't have power steering and it's hard to find em with AC. You can install them both, but just realize what you're getting yourself into. Here in vegas, it was essential to have both, and shoulder belts. Best of Luck

Just bought a 67 standard. Power steering no air and drum brakes.

Re: Possibly purchasing a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7

Hello,
I am 17 and recently purchased a 1968 cougar XR-7 with a 302 4v and auto on the floor. My parents had a 2002 Suburban, 2004 Honda Pilot and a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I got the Jeep but wanted a muscle car as well, so I looked on ebay for many months before I found one for $2000. It was of coarse a project car an had been droven since 1981 (well before I was born). Any way I bought it, and as you probably know muscle cars ar not very reliable and waste a lot of gas. Since I still had the Jeep is is not a problem, so If I were you and could take one of your parents new cars and get the Cougar I would do that. I probably wouldnt just get a muscle car.

Jonathan
