Re: H22a in 96 CX???

The chassis will be able to handle the torque, I'm not sure what he ment. But I'm not sure if Ohio has emissions regulations, where you can't put an older engine in your car. So find out, or otherwise just play it safe and get a '96+ us engine or '97+ jdm engine. Some states just won't let you put an older engine in. You'll also need to get some axles, as the prelude ones won't work for your car. The CX is different in that it's the base model, just has less options available than the DX does.

Re: H22a in 96 CX???

Ive checked, Ohio has no emissions regulations on swapping older enigines! So all im gonna need is some different axles and mounts and Im pretty much set on the swap?

Re: H22a in 96 CX???

You'll need an upgraded suspension also, at least some goo stiff springs and shocks or good coilovers. Then there's wiring, resistor box for injectors, cutting for the shifter, and cutting and welding (most likely) for the mounts.

If you go to JDMcustoms.com you will find they sell all the different honda engines and for pretty cheap. You can get a JDM H22a with all the stuff you will need to put into a civic for around $2700. The wiring harness, mounts, axles, shift linkage....plus it is free shipping and the engines have a 1 year warantee.

VERY TRUE!!!!!
i think the h22 is more than 200lbs than what you alrady have.
that extra weight also sits a little diffrently so you wil need a new suspention set up. this may also let your car properly proportion the extra power and will put more power to the ground.

Re: H22a in 96 CX???

the reason you'll want to upgrade your suspension is that the engine sits tilted a little towards the back. So it throws off the handling. Your stock suspension is enough to handle it going in a straight line and moderately through corners, but if you really want to be able to attack the corners you need a suspension set up that will allow you to do so. The suspension will also help put all that extra power to the ground.

In a '92-'00 Civic (and in general, respectively) none of this information is true. First the motor is only slightly larger in size compared to the B-series motors. Next, the big myth of the massive weight everyone hears about. Does the motor weigh more than the D's and B's? Yes, it absolutely does. However, there is only a difference of 35-50lbs. Here is a link of someone who was nice enough to actually weight an h22a, b16a, and a d16: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=684550 Now you may be thinking, "well he didn't weigh the heads or intake manifolds, so how do you figure it doesn't weigh a lot more than just 35-50lbs?" Well. The answer is that it's quite obvious that an engine's head will weigh less than its short block. So if the short block of an H22a weighs only 19lbs more than the B16a short block, then you have to figure the heads will be of a similar weight difference.
