Body Kit Help

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

I decided to buy this body kit... any suggestions ? You guyz think I should get it ? What worries me is that these body kits are not direct bolt on and that it might need a lot of fabrication. Now if I take it to a shop, I had heard a story of a guy who gave a shop to lower his car and put a body kit on it and they totally messed it up somehow. And if any1 know any good shops where I can get it installed ??

Re: Body Kit Help

Whats wrong with fiber glass ? I know urethane is alot stronger but is fiberglass really that breakable ? Should I spend $400 more on urethane ?

Re: Body Kit Help

someone said you can put your fist through fiberglass and its not like your stock bumber. your stock bumper is urethane I would go with urethane but thats me. I wouldnt want my body kit to break. plus i know someone that hit a speed bump and busted his whole front bumper of his car luckly he is realy good at fabricating and bonda and he fixed it up perfect

Re: Body Kit Help

I know a guy that ripped his fiber glass bumper on his tiburon the same day it was released from being painted. Form what i have seen, urethane bends and fiberglass cracks. My old stratus had a stock urethane back bumper. It was rear-ended. the trunk was messed the hell up and my bumper was fine. A scratch here and there but it was fine. That is what sway me away from wanting fiberglass. Not anymore tho. body kits are starting to be too old. To me of course. My 98 would look just fine with side-skirts and a paint job. IMO.

Re: Body Kit Help

Its true, fiberglass is weaker that urathane but to spend about $1000 bucks on a body kit WOW. Usually people spend that much money on engine and thats what I wanted to do. Spend less money on mod to look nice but spend more to make it faster and more durable. So I am thinking of going with fiber glass. I might regret this but to pay $1000 for bumpers, thats just insane.

You can get away with fiberglassing parts of your car, but I wouldn't mess with the bumpers. Fiberglass is too brittle for a bumper, it'll get f'ed up. Spending the money to get urethane now is preventative to spending money and time later when you'll have to repair the fiberglass. Lots of fiberglass stuff isn't a direct fit, either. Some of it requires custom fabrication. All bad. There are also different densities to fiberglass, but buying online doesn't yield itself to figuring that out until after your purchase. In general, it's better to buy body parts locally if you can. You can insure quality and save on shipping.

Re: Body Kit Help

Urethane is non repairable. That means if I hit a bump and it breaks I have to throw it away. Fiber glas is highly repairable. It coast anywhere from 50-200 to fix fiber glass depending on damages. But if I break urethane I have to buy a new one.

Re: Body Kit Help

i bought a fiberglass kit...and it REQUIRES tons of work...if u think its cheap just wait and try it out for yourself. 50-200 thats if you know how to do all the work yourself. because when u buy your cheapo kit from ebay or whatever some place calls its self respectable, your going to be VERY pisssed when it doesnt fit and the body shops tell you "no ,we dont have time for that" and the ones that do tell you its going to be 1200 to fix and paint it so it looks good. oh and btw you better learn to park like 2-3 feet out of the space cause the first time you hit a curb your whole bumper is fucked....keep your ears open and listen to these guys. if u REALLY want that fiberglass kit....ask me for pics of my car and i will go out and take them, ill even show you the rest of my kit i cant afford to put on. god help me if i ever learn shit about CF cause ill make my damn car bulletproof

Re: Body Kit Help

Will urethane fit 100% on my eclipse or will it require $500 worth of modifications and installation ?

Jesus people reply fast. Urethane has a decent chance of fitting like stock, fiberglass is unlikely to. Vis, among other companies, tend to have better fitting aftermarket parts. Which it to say that it isn't entirely dependent upon media.

Urethane is less likely to crack than fiberglass, say what you will. It's also very possible to repair; on tuners there's a thread of amateurs who're sharing their success stories in working on repairing urethane. It's very likely that if firsttimers can to it, professional shops are equiped to do the same.

It's your choice, if you like fiberglass don't let others talk you out of it, go for it. Only understand that in many ways urethane is easier to work with.

Re: Body Kit Help

urethane wont crack. the paint can crack and the urethane can tear/stretch/bend. but usually after it sitts in the sun for a little while it will flex back to the right shape on its own as it warms up.
